Challenge
The Customer needed a tool to conduct planned and non-scheduled reviews of employees on each other on various topics, with the ability to collect information for the company’s management.
Solution and Outcome
Our team created a flexible data model (review constructor). Opportunities were also realized in the preparation phase of the review: the creation of questions, options for answers, the choice of employees who must fill out a review for another employee, or each for each, the anonymity of the answers, the choice of the format of the survey result, the choice of users (who should see the result). We also implemented the possible functions after completing questionnaires by users: the ability to publish the result to a person or the whole team.
The Customer received a tool to gather feedback from employees about the work of the staff and the company. Employees of the company were given an opportunity to receive anonymous feedback from colleagues about their work.

Jason Medeiros, nēdl’s CTO, led our team and spearheaded the MVP development project. We started by providing several months of development assistance. We began with the necessary infrastructure setup, then moved on to setting up the application’s backend of nēdl’s own Amazon Web Services (AWS) server. Next, we created the appropriate intents for handling users’ spoken commands and configuring the intents’ handlers for the app.
After that, we integrated APIs of AWS, Audials and Elasticsearch to extend the scan by song, artist and keywords functions, all of which were pivotal to launching a market viable product.
Then, we continued work on the backend server, setting strict criteria for it. The server must:

• Receive a stream of user speech and convert it to text using automatic speech recognition software


• Store that text in a search index


• Provide a search API that supports the Amazon Alexa skill

The last piece of the puzzle: creating a nēdl API that performed search against the search index and integrating that API to play the stream.
Finally, after rigorous testing, nēdl was ready to launch.

The project was implemented for one of the Canadian oil and gas companies. The implemented business process implies recognition of the charts which are generated by two or three pens driven by sensors attached to gas pipes. These pens plot traces on a rotating paper disk. As a result, the disc has the values of different parameters such as gas pressure, water, temperature. The next step is to convert this chart into a readable format.
This conversion process used to be performed manually by our customer’s employees. They had to manually delineate the contours of each trace using the mouse and then create the table with the values of the trace. Obviously, the whole process was very time-consuming and painful for the employee since he had no room for mistake.
Challenges: The main challenge we faced was how we actually should recognize the chart itself and all the traces it contains. The traces on the chart could hardly be seen or overlap each other. These kinds of issues were the most challenging for us since we had to recognize each trace separately and form the table with the values of each parameter.
Solutions: To solve the problems which were described above, we did step-by-step work. To be more specific, we implemented the following things:

1. Implementation of recognizing the empty chart template without any traces;


2. Then recognizing the traces on the chart;


3. Then recognizing the colors of each trace since the traces can be red, black, blue, etc. It depends on the pen’s color;


4. Defining where the trace starts and where it ends;


5. Calculation of the average value of the trace.

Results: As a result of the first phase we developed the solution that takes the images of these charts input data, recognizes each trace and generates the result file as a table with the needed metrics of pressure, temperature, water.
This solution is currently used by the customer’s employees and provides them with a high level of accuracy.

We had tried some cross-platform development frameworks before, but the rendering/performance issues of those just hurt the eye.

The very first experiments revealed some very promising details about it and we craved to try it out for real. Unfortunately, none of our customers or partners was in a need of mobile app development at that very moment, so an extraordinary decision was made - to develop a mobile radio application for Latvian Christian Radio for its 25th birthday.
We created a small API on top of their existing database to get data about their archives and schedule in a structured way and got to work.
Soon, the radio app was completed and featured the following main functions:

Itransition developed the Automobile Dealership Management solution that enables all regional branches to work in one information environment.
The customer is Business Car Group, the largest dealership in Russia selling and servicing Toyota and Lexus cars, along with supplying spare parts and various accessories.
The Customer had been using the internally developed ERP named TOCIS that supported all commerce-related business processes. While the system worked quite well, however, since all the business processes were hardcoded, modifying the system to add a new dealership center, for instance, or to adjust a business process was prohibitively expensive.
The Customer made the decision to completely revamp the system and release TOCIS II to achieve the following goals:

• Optimize business process configuration and adjustment


• Ensure a simple enablement of new regional branches


• Comply with Toyota Service Marketing (TSM) methodology

Currently, TOCIS II system automates the key business processes of Business Car Ltd—retail and wholesale activities (vehicles, spare parts); after sales service.

The solution is highly adaptive to customer business that ensures process configurability. As the system is web-based, a high level of scalability is ensured—new dealerships are added through mere system customization.
