    Landscape Hub

Building a marketplace to help a plant seller disrupt its own 100-year-old business
Building a marketplace that connects buyers and suppliers on a single, price-transparent platform is a great idea — unless it’s competing with your wholesale business.
For over 100 years, the Fiore family has been supplying trees and shrubs to landscapers across the country. Their business, Fiore Nursery and Landscape Supply, operated on the standard wholesale model: they sourced the greenery from growers across the country, and buyers came to them to purchase all the plants they’d need for building sites, golf courses, even zoos. Now Lisa Fiore, the fourth generation of the Fiore Nurseries family, wanted to use all that industry knowledge to create an online marketplace that would disrupt the family’s original business — before someone else did. And she came to Table XI to do it.
The result is LandscapeHub, a web-based, responsive, two-sided marketplace platform built in Rails and React. To learn what we needed to build, we started with a Google Design Sprint, an Inception and a lot of user research to validate everyone’s ideas. Then we paired with LandscapeHub as it built out a technical team, teaching their new hires how we solved tricky data problems and built a marketplace strong enough to support future growth.
The MVP we launched attracted investor interest — enough to turn LandscapeHub into a fully-funded marketplace startup. And it’s self-reliant. We worked with LandscapeHub’s new developers and CTO to fully transition ownership of the product, so they can run with it without needing our help.

McDonald's Brand Virtual Pit Crew Challenge

In this award-winning activation, McDonald’s tapped a team of all-stars including NEXT/NOW to create a brand virtual reality sports experience for the hundreds of thousands of NASCAR fans during the 2016 Sprint Cup Series. While the races were exciting, the real game-changer was NEXT/NOW’s one-of-a-kind Brand Virtually Reality sports game on the (not yet publicly available) HTC Vive. Fans put on the headset and were transported into the excitement of a virtual NASCAR pit stop where Jamie McMurray, driver of the McDonald’s #1 Chevy SS, instructs them to become part of the team by changing the driver’s side tires in a race against time. Using the HTC Vive hand paddles, users see the race car scream to a stop, then rush to change the front and rear tires. The user then hands Jamie a Big Mac and sends him back out on to the track. Finally, the user receives an email sharable with their pit stop time, which they surely use for bragging rights.
NEXT/NOW went all out with the production of this game to capture every detail including a video shoot of Jamie McMurray and recording sound effects from a real-life pit stop. We used a Hollywood-level motion capture program to create the animations of the virtual pit crew and wrapped it up in a Brand Virtual Reality sports package that wowed fans.

Content Marketing Strategy: Three Piece Meal

Content marketing has become an essential part of any digital marketer’s toolbox. It is ubiquitous, a common component of online campaigns for everyone — from mom and pop stores to multinational conglomerates.
But while more content than ever before is currently being produced, most of us are still making a colossal mistake. We are investing more of our time, money, and resources into producing the content, than we are ensuring people actually get to experience it.
Companies around the globe are guilty of investing too much time and budget on the production of their content, and not enough on its amplification. Often they are producing infrequent piece-meal content on an ad hoc schedule.Recognizing that this is a common challenge for marketers, we developed the concept of the “Three Piece Meal” — a content marketing campaign neatly packaged into an easily digestible format with easy-to-understand pricing.
The inspiration actually originated from the fast food sector; where meal combos that package menu items together into a quick, easy, and affordable bundle are becoming increasingly popular.
So, we decided to take the same approach when it came to content — only instead of combining fries, chicken, and a drink into a single combo, we’ve packaged together the top performing elements of a successful marketing and distribution campaign.
To demonstrate the concept, we produced a short video at our office’s favorite fried chicken spot. If you’re the kind of person who prefers moving pictures to the written word, then now is the time to watch the below video. It’s a nice shortcut to help you learn how to effectively amplify your own content.

    Jacob's

Looking to broaden its appeal as a desirable and modern snacking brand, and reinstate its iconic status, in an increasingly competitive and changing world of savoury snacks, Jacob’s challenged Pearlfisher to create a contemporary visual identity.
Our impactful big idea - “Baked in” - celebrates and honours Jacob’s baking expertise and heritage and inspired our approach to the redesign - taking the emotion of baking into snacking to build a contemporary interpretation of the great story of Jacob’s.
By amplifying the brand’s most-recognised and loved equities to create a modern, vibrant and robust visual identity - and the creation of a new geometric pattern of crackers to form a wall of Jacob’s on shelf – we are building greater recognition and reinforcing brand equity and stand-out or the future of one of Britain’s most-loved and iconic brands.

For the 2015 Annual Report, we focused on the donors and their past contributions that made a difference to the school. Over 400 students from all grades wrote thank-you letters describing how the donations improved their experiences. The handwritten messages were reproduced throughout the printed annual report while each mailed report contained one of the original letters for an even more personal touch.

    Virgil Ortiz's ReVOlution

Ideum has teamed up with Cochiti Pueblo artist, potter, and fashion designer Virgil Ortiz to create a projection mapped installation as part of Ortiz’s ReVOlution: Rise Against the Invasion exhibition at the Colorado Fine Arts Center in Colorado Springs. This deeply compelling exhibition fuses traditional Cochiti art with Ortiz’s futuristic works to tell the story of the Pueblo Revolt of 1680, and takes visitors into the future for the Revolution of 2180.
The Ideum team worked with Ortiz to bring his story to life with a visual narrative that first took form with a pre-show Prelude. Ideum continued working with Ortiz to create the longer eight-minute immersive showpiece for the exhibit, which tells the fanciful story of next century’s Revolution:
Set in 2180, the Pueblos are in chaos and the invasion of Native land continues as the scourge of war rages everywhere. The Aeronauts summon their fleet and prepare for extreme warfare against the invading Castilian forces. The Aeronauts search for any remaining clay artifacts from the battlefield, knowing the importance of preserving and protecting their clay, culture, language and traditions from extinction.
Ortiz and Ideum worked with Colorado College to determine the most effective way to utilize the 1800-square-foot exhibit space and create a powerfully immersive environment for visitors. The exhibit features large scale projection on three walls of the gallery, each utilizing a single projector, with 3D mapped projection on two obelisks and moon models. A battle scene between the Aeronauts and the Castilians fills the center of the exhibit space, with full sized mannequins sporting battle regalia designed and created by Ortiz. The collaborative process for creating the projections involved several months of filming and editing content to fine tune the unfolding story. See it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xUczLFomCs&t=2sMore here: https://ideum.com/portfolio/revolution-exhibit

    Digital services and solutions agency

    The Challenge
Despite its reputation among clients as a premiere digital solutions agency, many decision makers visiting the agency website viewed the company as a commodity development agency. As a result, the company was frequently offered low value development work with low margins.

    Our Approach
In order to position the client as a provider of premier digital services and solutions, we took the following steps:

    • Analyzed popular search terms of the company's target audience and created original content that attracted decision makers.

    • Overhauled existing web copy, adding the relevant services and solutions which were missing from their current website.

    • Redesigned the new website experience to adhere to the best B2B design practices.

    The Results

    • Improved the company's findability and SEO rankings.

    • Increased qualified sales leads.

    • Drove incremental sales through new service offerings.

    • Lead QA engineer

    • Full stack developer

    • Project manager

    • Technical advisor

Jason Medeiros, nēdl’s CTO, led our team and spearheaded the MVP development project. We started by providing several months of development assistance. We began with the necessary infrastructure setup, then moved on to setting up the application’s backend of nēdl’s own Amazon Web Services (AWS) server. Next, we created the appropriate intents for handling users’ spoken commands and configuring the intents’ handlers for the app.
After that, we integrated APIs of AWS, Audials and Elasticsearch to extend the scan by song, artist and keywords functions, all of which were pivotal to launching a market viable product.
Then, we continued work on the backend server, setting strict criteria for it. The server must:

    • Receive a stream of user speech and convert it to text using automatic speech recognition software

    • Store that text in a search index

    • Provide a search API that supports the Amazon Alexa skill

The last piece of the puzzle: creating a nēdl API that performed search against the search index and integrating that API to play the stream.
Finally, after rigorous testing, nēdl was ready to launch.

    ProNova Sc360

Proton therapy has many advantages. It effectively targets cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue and organs. But the experience isn't particularly easy on stressed patients. That's why when ProNova decided to design a more accessible version of the equipment, they came to us to help design the patient and technician experience.
We designed the overall experience including system aesthetics, general room layout, and information architecture of treatment interfaces, with the goals of increasing efficiency, accuracy and throughput. To begin, our team interviewed patients and technicians, observed treatment at several centers, and were trained on an existing proton therapy system. This culminated in a procedure workflow that identified improvement opportunities. The team continuously refined the workflow throughout the development process. To test our ideas, we brought technicians into a life-sized treatment suite prototype, going through scenarios for several types of  procedures using interface concepts on computer and paper.

For patient comfort, we designed a more intimate treatment room that features a partially obscured nozzle that lessens the sense of the equipment's scale. Every piece of equipment that a technician or patient sees or touches has a modern, simple cover. The ceiling awning is strategically placed so a patient can watch a projected video during treatment to help the time pass.
For technicians, we designed an elegant control pendant, console and single-action snout clamp. Digitally, we defined the workflow for each type of patient treatment and created the information architecture for the five touchpoints used during the procedure. Working with ProNova’s software team, we designed the process and the accompanying screens. We created the user-friendly, information-rich visual design of all digital interfaces. This includes the treatment room projections that communicate procedure status to increase technician efficiency.

    Tooshlights

Tooshlights is the first and only restroom traffic management system that will increase traffic flow and efficiency in public restrooms by letting the guest know “where to go”.
When a stall is occupied, the smart latch is activated, the indicator light on the ceiling above the stall turns red. When the guest leaves the stall and opens the smart latch, the light turns green.
The smart latches communicate wirelessly with the indicator lights, which in turn are linked as a network to a wireless hub. The hub stores the usage frequency of each stall and communicates the information to the facility’s computer system. This information allows efficient scheduling of servicing, supplies and cleaning, by predicting service intervals based on usage. The system can also show if a stall goes down.
Occupancy information can also potentially be fed to an app, that can show a guest in a large venue which restroom has more open stalls.
Tooshlights came to M Industrial Design as a start up with just two employees and a simple working prototype. Our brief was to redesign and reengineer the Tooshlights to meet some tough design goals. The appearance design had to be beautiful enough to inspire architects to specify it, the housing had to accommodate electronics, switch and battery and be no wider than 1” to accommodate variable site conditions. It had to be rugged enough to withstand the public restroom environment.
M Industrial Design handled the design and engineering of the product, including the oversight of the electronics design of the smart latch, indicator and Hub.
MID also fabricated the first working prototypes, produced all production documentation and inspected and approved first article production parts.
Tooshlights has now been installed in several major airports and sports stadiums across the US and is well on its way to success.

    Campaign / Strategy

FOUNDRY and BUMBLE spread the love throughout the streets of Berlin with a 360 campaign. With over 40 million users in 160 countries, Bumble is not only fastest growing dating app today, but the first one of its kind where “women make the first move.”BUMBLE not only provides a platform for dating and finding love, users can also use the app to expand their network of awesome people by choosing between three categories: “dating,” “friendship” and “business.”We created a campaign specific to Berlin, where billboards were placed in strategically selected locations around the city.At the core of the headline campaign are apt references targeted towards audiences between the ages of 18 and 35. The messages play to specific and local stereotypes of different Berlin neighborhoods while addressing such topics as dating, friendships, business and especially female empowerment.
Foundry was responsible for the entire media campaign which included making sure the billboards were
placed in the most suitable locations in Berlin.
