Stepz Bold App Design

Stepz is a pedometer and step-counting app designed to help users achieve the goal of 10,000 daily steps in order to maintain their health and keep fit. The app is also fully integrated with Apple Health.

On the user dashboard the app displays the user’s daily distance in both steps and miles, and gives an overview of calories burned. Daily distance is shown in a graphical format that makes it easy to measure improvement over time. Users also have access to their full history, so it’s easy to monitor progress in a more long-term sense.

Navigation is handled through a simple tabbed menu that runs along the bottom of the screen. Different areas of the app are represented through line illustrations used as an iconographical set.

The app includes features that help encourage users to engage with it on a regular basis. There is an achievements feature that congratulates the user on reaching certain milestones, as when they have walked the equivalent of the length of the Grand Canyon. These achievements reward user engagement with the app and make them feel good about using it. Meanwhile, a community feature lets users connect with their friends on the app so they can keep each other accountable to keep moving and stay active.

The app features a bold color palette, dominating by the bright green of the Stepz logo. Color is used to indicate performance, with green denoting a day in which the 10,000 step goal was achieved, orange indicating a day where the user fell a bit short, and red indicating that the user did not walk enough. The modern, streamlined aesthetics of the app make it feel fresh and user-friendly, and information is presented in such a way as to be easily consumed and interpreted.
