Named after the wife of Forbes' founder B.C. Forbes, Adelaide personalizes the user's search experience by providing them with search recommendations and insights based on Forbes' extensive catalog of news and stories.
Visitors can test out the new search tool through their website and explore Forbes' content from the last 12 months.
What sets Forbes' generative AI tool apart from others is its "search- and conversation-based approach," which makes discovering content easier. It responds to queries based solely on Forbes articles and is powered by Google Cloud Vertex AI Search and Conversation.
This marks the second time this media outlet created an AI-based tool based on Google Cloud. Back in 2019, Forbes rolled out "Bertie," an AI tool that provided Forbes journalists with writing style recommendations.
How Forbes’ AI Tool Works?
To use the tool, users simply have to type in a topic into the search bar, to which they will receive a summary and Forbes articles related to their chosen topic.
We tested the tool ourselves by typing "Elon Musk" into the search bar, to which we were provided a background on the Space X and Tesla owner:
"Elon Musk was born in South Africa and became a U.S. citizen after attending university there. He was the world's richest person from September 2021 until recently. He is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. He also co-founded Neuralink and SpaceX. Musk is on the verge of buying Twitter and reportedly plans to lay off 75% of its staff if the deal goes through."
Then, we were provided with five articles that supplemented this information, along with the date of when they were published.
We also asked the AI tool who the most popular musical artist is at the moment, to which it responded with a quick summary of Bad Bunny and his ranking as the top Spotify artist "for the third year in a row."
However, after doing a quick fact check, American rapper Drake has surpassed Bad Bunny as the most streamed artist on Spotify, making Adelaide's information outdated.
Given it's trained on existing Forbes articles, we recommend using Adelaide as a jumping point to access different articles on a topic, instead of using it as a fact-checking tool.
The Future of Forbes’ AI Search Engine
While Adelaide is still in its early stages, Forbes promises it will continue to enhance the AI tool to generate better-summarized responses, make the experience even more personalized for users, and give it the ability to contextualize conversations, creating continuity between engagements.
"As we look to the future, we are enabling our audiences to better understand how AI can be a tool for good and enhance their lives," Vadim Supitskiy, Forbes Chief Digital and Information Officer said in a statement.
