Artistic extraordinaire Alisha Womack has joined DesignRush’s Best Design Awards jury.
With over 15 years of experience in visual design and creative leadership, she’s devoted her career to driving growth for ambitious brands and stimulating passion and ideas in others.
Alisha is currently the VP of Creative at event production company Destinations by Design. A respected global leader in design with over 15 years of experience, Womack has worked with a diverse range of companies, including Facebook, Unilever, YSL, and many more.
An Inspiring Journey
Alisha Womack’s passion for design began in high school, where she led the design and activation of major school events such as homecomings, proms, and graduations, creating cherished memories for her classmates.
Despite her success and encouragement from teachers and friends, she initially viewed design as a hobby rather than a potential career.
“As the first member of her family to attend college, I was determined to overcome the financial circumstances I grew up in and pursue a traditional career path in medicine, finance, or law,” she told us.
With nearly $1 million in scholarships and acceptance letters from five Ivy League universities, Womack chose Spelman College, known for championing Black women.
Spelman provided a supportive environment where she could nurture her identity as both a Black person and a woman. This empowerment allowed her design career to flourish, even when she initially entered as a pre-med biology major.
Alisha was soon nominated to design campus-wide events and experiences, receiving the same recognition for her talent that she had in high school.
This newfound validation led her to apply for design internships, which served as springboards into a successful career.
Professional Accomplishments
Womack’s early career included internships in corporate marketing and advertising at PricewaterhouseCoopers, as well as in creative and design at Target, where she was named "intern of the year."
Her career progression from intern to lead designer, art director, creative director, and VP of creative showcases her dedication and talent.
Womack’s diverse experience spans live and virtual brand activations, digital, print, and social media — all grounded in visual design.
Alisha has helped numerous brands, including Etsy, L'Oréal, Papa John’s, Deloitte, and Walmart, uncover and tell their stories, highlighting the value these stories add to their audiences’ lives.
She’s the recipient of several industry awards including:
- Most Outstanding Digital Campaign from LVIMA
- Most Outstanding Event Marketing Campaign from Event Marketer
- Most Outstanding Video Content from the Telly Awards
- Most Innovative Product Launch from Omnicom Media Group
Joining the DesignRush Jury
Alisha expressed her excitement to join DesignRush’s Best Design Awards jury.
“Being able to geek out with other like-minded creatives is truly exhilarating,” she shared.
Her advice to creatives aiming to win a design award is always to remember that design is a blend of science and art.
“Developing a strategy and end goal for your design and then finding the most inventive way to bring that story to life is the key to unlocking powerful human-centered design,” she explained.
