AT&T just launched a new spot as part of its ongoing campaign promoting its tech innovations, and it stars American actor and filmmaker Ben Stiller.
The full one-minute ad, titled "Epic Bad Golf Day," comes as part of AT&T's "Connecting Changes Everything" campaign, made together with its creative agency of record BBDO.
It opens with Stiller shushing his co-golfers as he concentrates on his tee shot.
The "Zoolander" star then goes down a rabbit hole, immersing himself in his golfing session, so much so that it leads him to the most peculiar places.
By the road of a desert, Stiller gets recognized by a fan passing by, despite his long hair, full beard, and overall shabby appearance.
"Hey, are you Ben Stiller?" the man asks after Stiller swings his club. "I don't even know anymore," the actor dazedly responds.
Stiller's golf obsession then gets even more out of hand, with him riding a buffalo to the middle of nowhere, just to find where his golf ball landed.
Now, in a canyon, the Hollywood star finally locates his ball. He then uses AT&T satellite calling to reach his friend, professional golfer Jordan Spieth.
The three-time majors winner asks Stiller where he is.
"I'm a little off the green," he responds, adding that he's "somewhere between heaven and hell."
The spot concludes with the message, "The future of help is an AT&T satellite call away."
AT&T's 'Connecting Changes Everything' Campaign
The ad is set to air during the Master's Tournament, which opens today, together with a 30-second spot featuring golfer Rose Zhang.
Each spot will tout AT&T's service advancements, including the upcoming satellite call feature showcased in "Epic Bad Golf Day."
"In 2023, in partnership with ASC Space Mobile, AT&T actually made the first ever satellite to cell call," Valerie Vargas, AT&T senior VP of advertising, explained.
"We wanted to demonstrate that, in the future, you can have that safety and security in being able to make a call whenever and wherever you are."
