Hootsuite's latest Social Media Trends 2024 report revealed a surprising revelation regarding how consumers see AI-generated content.
According to its Social Media Consumer 2024 Survey, an estimated 62% of consumers are less likely to engage or trust content they find on social media if they knew it was generated using AI.
Furthermore, the study found that this level of engagement and trust varied between generations, with Gen Z more likely to know which content is AI-generated, and more likely to trust and engage with these types of content.

Meanwhile, both Generation X and baby boomers express difficulty in telling between human-made and AI-made content, and among the other generations, these two would also least likely trust content written and created by AI.
Although generating content using AI is definitely easier and cheaper, it's still best to invest in hiring top content marketing agencies to create quality content for your business.
AI Use Still on the Rise for Marketers
The findings come as the use of AI has become more prominent among social marketers since its public inception in 2022.
Hootsuite's report indicates that roughly 318% more organizations plan to use AI for customer support activities this year, while 260% plan on adopting AI to edit images.
In late 2023, a study conducted by DesignRush revealed that 85% of digital agencies have incorporated AI tools into their daily routines, 41% noticed productivity improvement, and 56% rated AI-made content as "good" or "excellent."
Interest in the technology has also spiked between 2022 and 2023, with AI learning topics increasing by 550%.
The rising integration of AI in the digital marketing industry stands in contrast to consumers who are still opposed to trusting those kinds of content, and it remains to be known whether this trust will go in an upward or downward trajectory.
