Google has announced the creation of Willow, its fastest and most advanced quantum computer chip to date.
Revealed on Monday, the chip boasts excellent metrics and capabilities that help it reduce errors exponentially, fixing a 30-year problem in the field.
Willow's processing speed enables it to compute a standard benchmark equation in only five minutes, one that would normally take a top-of-the-line supercomputer 10 septillion years.
Google used the random circuit sampling (RCS) benchmark to measure Willow's performance. Pioneered by Google's team, RCS is the hardest possible benchmark for a quantum computer that is a standard in the field.

According to a statement from Google Director of Quantum Hardware Julian Kelly, the new chip is a significant achievement for a venture that began way back in 2012.
Kelly also cited the department's vision to build a large-scale quantum computer that could utilize "the 'operating system' of nature" to eventually benefit society:
As for Google's search engine, the company recently released a core update last November 11.
That same month, the tech giant also launched the fifth iteration of its "Black-Owned Friday" campaign.
Major Problems Ahead
Willow may face a significant roadblock as Google faces the threat of a breakup mandated by the U.S. government.
As one of the world's largest monopolies, the tech giant is accused of having to face the consequences of stifling competition and innovation by using unfair search engine practices.
Due to this, the U.S. Justice Department is pushing the tech giant to sell off its Google Chrome browser.
However, Google CEO Sundar Pichai was seemingly confident that regulators would not be able to break up the company with what it deems are "overly broad" penalties.
Despite all of this, it's business as usual for Google.
