Hulu Will Not Allow You to Share Passwords Anymore

Streaming platform Hulu has recently implemented changes to its Terms of Service (ToS), aiming to crack down on password sharing among its subscribers.

The updated policy, which explicitly prohibits sharing account credentials outside of one's primary personal residence, will take effect on March 14, 2024. 

"Unless otherwise permitted by your Service Tier, you may not share your subscription outside of your household. 'Household' means the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein. Additional usage rules may apply for certain Service Tiers." 

The updated ToS also grants Hulu the authority to analyze account activity and potentially limit or terminate access for violators.

Hulu Joins Netflix and Disney in Crackdown Efforts

Hulu's decision to tighten its stance on password sharing comes amidst industry-wide efforts to fight the practice.

Netflix previously reported success in driving more sign-ups after cracking down on password sharing, and Disney CEO Bob Iger expressed interest in following suit.

With Disney's increasing control over Hulu and the integration of the two streaming platforms, the alignment of policies regarding account sharing was inevitable.
