In another commercial, the Mechas, controlled by series main characteres Shinji and Asuka, are seen holding Big Macs, while other characters do the same.
The limited-edition set of figurines will be priced at $25, and is set to launch on January 6.
Gabriel Shaoolian, founder and CEO of Digital Silk, highlights that limited-time collaborations like this one drive urgency, boosting sales and building anticipation for future campaigns.
“Limited-time collaborations tap into consumers' FOMO, creating urgency that sparks excitement and action. When brands like McDonald's pair exclusive products with a time-sensitive window, they trigger an immediate response, driving excitement and action. It's a smart strategy to not only boost short-term sales but also build anticipation for future campaigns.
However, the exclusivity must feel genuine and the product something consumers really want to get their hands on before it disappears."
To secure a chance to purchase the set, fans of the anime can also enter a lottery through the McDonald's Japan app, which will be open until January 10, 2025.
A Collab of Epic Proportions
Apart from collectibles, the team-up between the fast-food chain and one of Japan's most famous anime franchises will also entail exclusive menu items inspired by the anime's characters.
These include:
- Thick-Cut Potato & Thick Beef with Colossal Garlic Mayo, which takes notes from the show's "A.T. Field"
- Mexican Cheese Chicken, inspired by the fan-favorite Asuka Langley
- Cheese Double Teriyaki, which dons the colors of Shinji and his Mecha
