Fast-food giant McDonald's is venturing into the cosmos of small-format, beverage-led concepts with the launch of CosMc's.
"CosMc's seamlessly blends brand-new, otherworldly beverage creations with a small lineup of food, including a select few McDonald’s favorites – all designed to boost your mood into the stratosphere, if only for a few moments," the company wrote in a press release.
As part of its test, CosMc's is set to touch down in Bolingbrook, Illinois, with several more locations anticipated to open by the end of 2024 in the Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio metro areas of Texas.
The new restaurant will offer a menu inspired by nostalgia, offering refreshing beverages and delectable treats, including a spicy queso sandwich, hash brown bites – pretzel bites with dipping sauces.
It will also have a handful of desserts like blueberry lemon cookie sundae and caramel fudge brownies. Classic McDonald's favorites such as McFlurry's and the Egg McMuffin will also make an appearance.
Despite its wide variety of food offerings, the stars of CosMc's revolve around its specialty drinks, offering consumers a diverse range of specialty lemonades, teas, blended beverages and cold coffee.
"CosMc's menu is rooted in beverage exploration, with bold and unexpected flavor combinations, vibrant colors and functional boosts," McDonald's stated.
The menu promises exciting combinations such as Sour Cherry Energy Slush, Tropical Spiceade and S'mores Cold Brew.
McDonald’s Competes With Leading Beverage Giants
In a move seemingly aimed at competing with established beverage-focused chains like Starbucks and Dutch Bros, McDonald's is entering the domain of cold beverages, recognizing the significant market in this sector.
Starbucks, as one of the leading coffee chains in the U.S., has found great success with customizable options and cold foam, with modifiers representing a substantial $1 billion business for the coffee chain.
Meanwhile, CosMc's brings a sense of mystery and nostalgia to the table, drawing inspiration from an obscure McDonaldland character from the late '80s.
