Meta Boosts Quest 2 and Quest Pro Performance in V55 Update

Global software development company Meta is boosting the performance of its Quest 2 and Quest Pro VR headsets in the latest v55 update.  

With v55, both headsets will get Dynamic Resolution Scaling and a CPU performance increase of up to 26%. Quest 2 will get up to 19% GPU speed increase, while Quest Pro will get up to 11%.  

The Meta Quest Browser will also be getting a new multi-touch gesture support, which allows users to use their Touch controllers or hands to zoom in and out, or interact with other web elements while browsing online, watching videos, playing games, and more.  

The performance enhancements were tested in a before-and-after video posted by Meta. All these changes will help smoothen gameplay, make the UI more responsive, and create richer content for both headsets.

This development further solidifies Meta's competitive stance in the virtual environment while VR companies continue to provide more immersive and streamlined experiences.

V55 is also bringing a standalone VR app for Messenger to Quest 2 and Quest Pro, making it easier to connect with friends “in a more natural way” across 2D or 3D surfaces. Similarly to the Messenger feature in other devices, it will also allow users to build customizable avatars. 

Lastly, v55 is introducing a fresh new Explore page where users can find short-form videos, different kinds of content, and more in one convenient location. Reels from Facebook or Instagram accounts connected to a user’s Meta account will also show up on these pages, as per the company’s blog post.  

V55 will roll out gradually on both devices starting today.  

The new update comes over a week after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the VR company is testing out reels in its headsets. 

It was also teased at the time that Reels for Quest will most likely be viewed similarly to how users could browse them in their mobile devices.
