American finance platform NerdWallet launched a new campaign addressing the rise of deep fakes and misinformation in recent years.
Made together with creative studio Deutsch LA, "Fact Check Your Finances" is exactly what its name suggests — a call for everyone to protect their money through NerdWallet's services.
The efforts are marked by a 30-second spot starring James Downing and Connie Wang as a "CFO" and a "Nerd" to drive the point that things aren't always as they seem (in a witty way, of curse).
Deutsch LA Creative Director Max Pollak expounds on the core idea behind the thought-provoking spot, which is to "get people thinking about who they're trusting when it comes to financial decisions — because if it's not NerdWallet, it might not be the smartest decision they could make."
Creative Director Carly Blitz reinforces this, saying that in a world of fake financial experts, the agency and brand wanted to create a spot that "takes the viewer along for the ride as a seemingly trustworthy source completely devolves into nothing more than a piece of confetti cake."
The latest from agency and brand is a prime example of finance branding and marketing done right.
By integrating storytelling into its spot, NerdWallet strengthens its emotional connection to potential customers, building brand trust and loyalty.
This is also seen in the finance company's previous campaigns, blending comedy with a hard-hitting lesson for viewers to help them not make decisions they would only regret in the future.
The finance company prides itself on being a reliable resource for financial products, being run by "real-life finance Nerds."
It even has the numbers to prove it.
In one year alone, the Nerds have dedicated more than 27,000 hours of researching and reviewing over 1,300 financial products to guide consumers to make smart decisions that cater to their specific needs.
Alison McCoy, NerdWallet's VP of brand marketing, says consumers are more focused than ever on finding the best options, but the rise of new technologies is making it harder to discern which sources are credible.
"Fact Check Your Finances" airs on TV, online video and digital streaming, podcast, and social media.
Not Always as They Seem
The 30-second ad kickstarts with Downing introducing himself as a successful CFO while entering his penthouse.
Things take a turn when he warns viewers to be careful with who they're listening to when it comes to their financial decisions.
As he steps into his office, he begins to remove his tie, wig, and suit, now wearing nothing but a tank top and a pair of sweats.
"I'm not a CFO, and this is not a penthouse," he says, revealing the entire setting to be nothing but a set in a NerdWallet commercial.
In an even more surprising turn of events, Downing is revealed to be a robot, before he shows his true colors of actually being a piece of cake.
Wang steps into the frame and tells viewers to "listen to the Nerds," as the advert closes.
Previously, digital bank Monzo launched its first campaign in five years that highlights how its app takes the stress out of banking.
