Global software development leader IT Medical has developed an AI-powered assistant that simplifies the testing process, improves patient adherence, and streamlines data management for healthcare providers.
The solution is designed to not only simplify at-home gastrointestinal testing procedures for patients but also address patient adherence, data accuracy, and workflow efficiency.
In short, patients can receive personalized, real-time support throughout the testing process, while healthcare providers benefit from accurate, easily accessible data.
This means that the solution can reduce errors and administrative workload, and potentially lead to cost savings of up to $150 billion yearly by 2026.
The development is timely and much-needed. According to Gallup, Americans’ view of healthcare quality in the country has dropped to a 24-year low.
As healthcare quality declines, patient trust may erode, leading to decreased patient volumes. This decline can further reduce revenue streams for hospitals and clinics already struggling with treatment efficiency and high operational costs.
To counter this scenario, IT Medical’s Artificial Intelligence Diagnostics Assistant (AIDA) was developed using OpenAI’s Large Language Models (LLMs) and fine-tuned on medical terminology, gastrointestinal protocols, and real-world patient interactions to provide accurate guidance.
In addition, IT Medical integrated advanced natural language processing (NLP) via OpenAI’s API, allowing the assistant to interpret patient queries, deliver instructions in simple terms, and capture symptom data.
The company also integrated custom Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, which enables the assistant to digitize handwritten symptom logs, ensuring they are accurately uploaded into electronic health records (EHR).
Aleksandra Buimistere, Head of PR, IT Medical, said the integration of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology into AIDA is a game-changer for healthcare providers.
“By seamlessly converting handwritten symptom logs into accurate digital records, we eliminate manual data entry errors and save valuable time.
This ensures that clinicians have access to complete and precise patient information in real time, enabling more informed decision-making and improving the overall efficiency of care delivery.”
Streamlining Provider Workflows
Because AIDA was designed to improve efficiency and accuracy for medical staff, it automates key processes, reduces manual tasks, and ensures compliance with healthcare regulations, including the NHS Digital Standards and The Data Protection Act.
According to Buimistere, automating critical processes and reducing administrative burdens empowers medical staff to focus more on patient care.
“Its compliance with NHS Digital Standards and The Data Protection Act ensures that innovation and regulatory responsibility go hand in hand, setting a new benchmark for AI-driven solutions in the healthcare industry.”
By improving patient adherence, simplifying testing processes, and enhancing workflow efficiency, AIDA aligns with the ongoing trends of AI reshaping the healthcare industry.
This shift is part of a larger movement where AI solutions are expected to transform the $1 trillion healthcare sector, in which IT Medical plans to revolutionize patient care.
