British telecommunications giant O2 has unveiled its latest holiday campaign highlighting the woes of data poverty.
Made together with agency VCCP London, the new initiative is marked by a heartwarming spot that raises awareness on the National Databank, which provides O2 mobile data, text, and calls to those in need for free.
Through a one-minute hero spot titled "Snowing SIMS," it shows the real-life struggles of people who don't have access to data — and how O2 supports them through the National Databank.

Additionally, it serves as a response by the Virgin Media partner to the alarming statistic that an estimated 2 million households live in data poverty.
Simon Valcarcel, Virgin Media O2 marketing director shared that the brand wanted to use the platform this holiday season to "share the realities of not having data in an honest and relatable way, while raising awareness of the support available via the National Databank."
By understanding the plight of the people, O2 poses itself as a brand that cares for its customers, strengthening its brand identity and developing meaningful emotional connections.
Giving You Connection
Set to the tune of "Snowfall" by Ingrid Michaelson, the one-minute commercial kickstarts with a woman unable to connect with her loved ones due to lack of data.
In another scene, a man and his daughter are interrupted during their streaming session with a prompt telling them they need more data to continue.
Another woman struggles to pay for her groceries without access to her payment portals through mobile data.

Suddenly, snow starts to fall from the sky. However, it's not regular snow but O2 sim cards for those in need.
"Around 2 million households are living in data poverty, so we're giving free data to those who need it the most," the narrator shares.
The spot ends with the O2 logo and the brand's slogan: "See what you can do."
Previously, VCCP London and O2 recreated the iconic "Walk" ad with global pop star Dua Lipa.
