In an aim to get ahead of the uncertainty surrounding the TikTok ban, social media giant X has announced that it would be debuting its own vertical video feed.
Announced in a post, the dedicated video tab will reportedly be rolling out later today in the U.S., allowing users to access video content on the platform more easily.
Though the feature technically already exists on the platform (users simply need to tap on a video in the timeline before scrolling up and down), having the feature marks a new direction for X.
you better not be making a dedicated video tab when I get home

X users had mixed reactions to the change, with many celebrating the new addition.
Others, however, were not impressed, citing the oversaturation of short-form video.
Please don’t do this. We don’t need more short form video.

The TikTok ban has caused widespread ramifications in social media marketing and advertising tech, as both sectors scramble to fill the void.
Last week, Triller gave users an easy way to archive their TikTok posts and upload them to their new Triller account.
Many TikTok users also made the move to Xiaohongshu or RedNote, a Chinese social media platform.

Shortly after the launch of X's new feature, social media platform BlueSky made a similar announcement to unveil a customizable video feed.
Users can scroll through videos, or use targeted feeds that only compile video content from chosen hashtags.
According to BlueSky, video-only timelines will be available to specific custom feeds only. Standard feeds and posts containing videos will not automatically enter users into a video timeline.
We had to get in on the video action too — Bluesky now has custom feeds for video! Like any other feed, you can choose to pin these or not. Bluesky is yours to customize.

The social network also gave a special mention to Graze Social and Skyfeed, independent developers of no-code tools that have been contributing to the new feature.
Founded by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, BlueSky has grown considerably since it first launched in October 2021.
Last November, users flocked to the social media platform after some controversial changes at X, bringing its total user count to 20 million.
