Google's generative AI tool Gemini is getting an upgrade aimed at boosting productivity and usability.
"Gemini Live" is the AI assistant's conversational mode akin to OpenAI's ChatGPT, helping users brainstorm, plan, and craft new ideas, among a handful of other use cases.
With the new voice mode, users can relay their inquiries to the tool without typing — even when their phones are locked, and the app is just in the background.

The new tool comes with 10 different voices, along with a set of styles and tones, according to Google's blog post.
Additionally, users will also be able to speak and ask follow-up questions in the middle of Gemini's response, simulating the feeling of a real conversation.
Gemini Live is now available in English to subscribers of Gemini Advanced on Android and will roll out in iOS with additional languages in the coming weeks.
While a subscription to the upgraded platform costs $19.99 a month, the tech giant also offers a one-month free trial to those curious to try out the service.
Sissie Hsiao, VP and general manager of Gemini Experiences and Google Assistant, explained the role of technology in getting things done and saving us valuable minutes each day — and how generative AI can "provide a whole new type of help for complex tasks."
In 2024, generative AI is expected to grow to the point of near invisibility in everyday technology — and Gemini Live is no exception from this.
Beyond day-to-day tasks, the booming technology can also benefit businesses and drive success and innovation in ways that were once only imaginable. No matter the industry, generative AI is here to stay, and businesses are invited to leverage the technology to ensure their success.
Gemini In Pixel and Extensions
Apart from the launch of Gemini Live, Google has also announced significant advancements in the integration of AI across its platforms and services.
Across all Pixel 9 phones, Gemini Nano with Multimodality will also serve as the phone's default assistant.

Utilizing a brand-new Google Tensor G4 Chip, the default AI setting will help the units understand text, images, and audio. Additionally, the tech giant will soon introduce a slate of Gemini extensions for Keep, Tasks, Utilities, and expanded YouTube Music features.
In an example provided by Hsiao, this integration will allow users to have Gemini find recipes users have sent to them via Gmail, add ingredients to their Keep shopping list, and even create a playlist of songs on YouTube music.
Earlier in 2024, the tool formerly known as Bard was integrated into Google Ads services, offering advertisers more ways to efficiently construct and expand Search ad campaigns.
