Ipsy Great App Design

Ipsy is a beauty subscription service developed in partnership with the well-known beauty vlogger, Michelle Phan. Subscribers pay $10 per month to receive a monthly delivery Glam Bag containing five beauty products in an assortment of trial, travel, and full sizes. Each user’s monthly Glam Bag is customized based on their preferences and personal style.

When a user first opens the Ipsy app, she is taken through a style quiz process that helps determine which types of products she will receive. Users indicate their preferences on a variety of factors, including which products they use most often and what shade categories they prefer for specific product categories.

Within the app, subscribers can review the products that are contained in their monthly Glam Bag. For each product users also have access to expert tutorials and tips, including written and video how-tos, that have been created by the Ipsy team. The app further incentivizes regular engagement through exclusive brand offers that are featured on the app every weekday. Loyal subscribers can also earn beauty points that can be tracked and managed via the app, and later redeemed to score free beauty products.

The design of the app is heavy on makeup photography positioned against a plain white background. Liberal use of Ipsy’s hot pink accent color helps punctuate the app’s bright color palette. Otherwise, the main background color is white and most text is kept to a lightweight muted gray typography. Lots of white space keeps the app feeling breezy and uncluttered.

Ipsy is a great app design in the fashion & beauty industry.
