Trailforks is an app designed to help mountain bikers navigate the world’s mountain biking trails. It bills itself as the world’s largest mountain bike trail database.
On launch, the app takes the users through a brief onboarding process, explaining what the app is and demonstrating some of the key features and how to use them. This basic onboarding helps ensure that users can get maximum benefit from their use of the app, and makes it more likely they’ll use it regularly.
Following the onboarding, users are prompted to download regions. Information is saved locally so that it’s accessible even when the user has no access to data, as is often the case when out in the wilderness. Once a region is downloaded, a map view locates the trails within the region. Users can zoom in to find the trail they’re looking for, or using the search functionality located at the top right of the screen to find something specific.
Swiping up on a trail will populate all the details of that specific trail. Each trail has average ratings information populated by those who have ridden the trail before, as well as up-to-date trail conditions, and details on distance, climb, descent, and average time to ride the trail. Users can access a map of the trail or route to the access point.
The Trailforks app is a great resource for mountain bikers with a huge number of trails available through the app. It’s a useful tool for accessing information about the most recent conditions and assessing whether a particular trail will be too easy or difficult. Users can upload ride logs and keep track of trails they want to try. The app has clearly been designed with experienced mountain bikers in mind, and offline functionality makes it the perfect trail companion.Â
