  • Project Brief: Create packaging design that reimagines the traditional Chinese cigarette carton as a solid glass gift, preserving its cultural symbolism without tobacco.

Health and wellness packaging rarely takes the form of the exact product it wants to replace. Mother Goods recasts an iconic Chinese cigarette carton as a solid block of smoked ruby glass, keeping the gift-giving ritual while removing the tobacco entirely.

The material swap is the whole argument. Cast in translucent red glass with the Chunghwa wordmark, Tiananmen gate, and barcode carved into the surface, the object reads as the familiar carton while announcing it holds nothing to smoke.

The engraving carries the brand fidelity. Chinese characters, the pagoda motif, the "Filter Kings" line, and even the health-warning text sit crisp in the glass, so the replica matches the original carton panel for panel.

The weight does the rest of the work. A solid glass block gives the gift the heft and perceived value a premium carton needs to signal goodwill, which keeps the ritual intact while the object stays honest about holding zero cigarettes.
