The best packaging designs have an all-encompassing theme that brings together multiple design elements to produce a memorable design and increase the value of the product. British design studio Build created the packaging design for Halocyan Records.
Halocyan Records is a record label and global dance brand launched by Dimitri Fergadis. Dimitri is an acclaimed musician in the electronic music genre that aims to continue carrying the torch of the electronic music legacy.
The packaging design produced by Build is striking. The above picture shows the artist name Universal Quantifier in silver. What is astonishing about this packaging design is that the double CD pack was created using a Mirri board. A Mirri board is metallic paper and metallic board that look gorgeous with holographic typography.
Here we see the color gradient of purple, green, yellow, white, blue -- the entire light spectrum, on the Mirri board. The Universal Quantifier symbols look great. It looks like the letters were forged from a rainbow fire and bestowed upon us as some sort of act of pity to be worthy of such grace.
I have never seen a CD packaging design so captivating before. This is what makes this packaging design so clever. Originality is what gives the best designs their flare. Think about the hundreds of CDs this packaging design has to compete with digitally. The endless amounts of cover art as customers browse through products. This design jumps off the page and grabs attention like dragon fire.
The holographic reflection continues with a picture showing three CD cases stacked on top of each other. The Mirri board sets this design on fire with the ability to capture attention.
The use of white and gray is color-contrasting brilliance. It gives this CD pack a sense of purity. It is as if this CD pack contains the sound of bliss dropped down from the heavens above. With package design, the less elements used, the more effective the design will be.
When the CD case is opened, the CD features a beautiful rainbow effect and white text on the surface. The use of white promotes peace, tranquility, calm and purity. It conveys a sense that this CD will make everything alright. That this CD is a form of sonic enlightenment.
British design studio build created a best packaging design that I am sure defied all expectations of Halocyan Records. The have a CD pack that looks like it was forged from heaven and blessed with rainbow fire and sophisticated elegance.
The biggest feature in best packaging design is originality. By utilizing the metallic Mirri board with holographic foil, Build set this CD apart from all others that came before it or plan to compete with it for customer attention. Placed on a table, or on a computer screen, or a mobile device, this is the packaging that consumer attention will gravitate to like light gravitates to a black hole.
Using white negative space and contrasting colors are bonus attributes that enhance the already astounding Mirri board slipcase with holographic foil typography. Take note and get inspired, because we need more packaging designs as daring as this one.
