- Project Brief: Create a portfolio website that presents Celine Ka Wing Lau’s illustration and visual communication work through clean layouts, intuitive navigation, and expressive project storytelling.
A portfolio website tends to keep the nav quiet so the work can shout. Celine Ka Wing Lau's website flips that by turning the Hong Kong and London illustrator's own homepage into a drawing, where every menu item is a hand-inked doodle.
The whole front page reads like a sketchbook spread. "Shop" is scrawled on a plastic bag, "About" hangs off a keyring, "Home page" comes out of a horse's mouth on a little house, all floating on a loud chrome-yellow field.
The doodles carry the personality that a normal menu would flatten, showing off her bold-line, witty-character style before you click a thing. It also serves as a live audition, since the interface is itself a sample of the illustration you would hire her for.
The inside pages drop the chaos for a plain white grid, letting the Bloomberg, Observer, and Casetify work stand clean. That swing from a maximal doodle-wall entry to a quiet gallery is smart, though the playful homepage leans so hard on charm that a first-timer can hunt a second to work out which drawing is the link they want.
