We used Focus HR for years and then made the grave error of switching To QuickBooks payroll in order to save some money, but the reality is, we probably didn’t save anything when you factor in the insane amount of time that we have had to spend On the phone with a terrible customer service department that is no help. This is a local company. That is absolutely amazing And who supported us for many years. We can’t wait to switch back to them. Sometimes it takes leaving a place to realize how incredible another place is and this is an example of that. Greg, the CEO is the nicest guy and is readily accessible and so many other people on his team are amazing and saved the day on more than one occasion. They know what they are doing and make payroll and HR so much less stressful for the small business owner and I cannot speak highly enough of them. This is a long review, because there is a lot to say before we found Focus HR.We started out with 4 of us at our business. I was new to Quickbooks, but I did payroll in-house with the help of an outside bookkeeper. When we grew to 11 employees, we wanted to offer insurance benefits and HSA plans, so we decided to use Paychex to implement the payroll/insurance package.Not even 2 weeks into the process, we started having issues with Paychex asking for duplicate financial and employee information that we had already provided on day 1. The first person who received one set of documents didn't pass it to the next person who should have received it, thus duplicate requests were the norm. When I was emailed information, every email was copied to 6 or 7 other people, and I was never sure if I had my own personal representative for our business. It was quite disorganized and communication was fairy dust. Each hand never seemed to know what the other hand was doing. Our employees ended up without insurance on the day it was supposed to go live.When I emailed a question to who I thought was the correct person at Paychex, I was often told that they weren't the correct person and then it was FW'd to someone else, sometimes more than once, and then it would take literal days to finally get a response. I couldn't just pick up the phone and call someone. Our employees were frustrated because they couldn't get answers to their questions. The experience was so bad that we ended up canceling our contract with Paychex for lack of performance.I was ready to go back to doing payroll in-house again, when our banker gave me a business card for Focus HR. My husband had used Focus HR for a different company, and I had met Clint Parry at a business meeting years before. After meeting with Clint again, we took the plunge and hired Focus HR for our payroll and insurance package.That was almost 2 years ago and we've never looked back. I have my own payroll specialist, and now with 21 employees I need all the help I can get. I can email or call and I know Constance will get to me just as soon as she can. She is my 2nd set of eyes for timesheets, hours and all things payroll.Focus HR offers everything from payroll, to insurance, to HR/Handbooks, to WC. All just a phone call or email away. The cost is actually a little less than Paychex, and I told Clint the other day that I happily pay that bill every month because I feel like Focus HR is part of OUR team. Even our employees have been able to speak or email Focus HR with questions.All the headache of HR compliance is handled through them, and I have professionals at my fingertips. When we've had to let people go, they were there to make sure everything was done correctly and legally.It's not that the whole process is without mistakes. We're human. I've made mistakes and then Constance will call or email with questions. There's been minor errors on their side, but the difference is that they are recognized and rectified immediately, not blamed on others or hidden under the rug.I actually love working with Focus HR. They have different people in different roles for a reason, and each is an expert in their field.I will never, ever recommend Paychex to any business owner!But I will recommend Focus HR to every business owner that I meet. No accountability, whatsoever. Bad business. Sue in HR lacks accountability and basic human integrity. The employee is not protected in any way, shape or form. We've been using FocusHR for many years. Their onboarding process was thorough and easy. They do our payroll, make sure our employee documentation is up to date and have a HR specialist we can contact whenever we need info or help.
