I hired Start Studio under a $25K agreement to deliver a real, customer-facing MVP. We provided a full scoped design, product plan, and expected custom development.After nearly $9K (30-35% of the total budget), we were left with a nonfunctional front-end shell, no backend, no integrations — just minor edits to our own designs. 90% of what was delivered was static and unusable. No working code. No product.They billed custom dev rates ($125/hr) but delivered no custom functionality. When questioned, they admitted they were only building an internal prototype — a direct contradiction of everything agreed upon.We have all invoices and time logs, and have benchmarked each against industry-standard scope-to-cost ratios to prove. The overbilling is clear.This was a bait-and-switch. Founders: get everything in writing, demand Git access from day one, and never pay premium rates for placeholder work.
