- Project Brief: Create a cinematic music video that explores identity, performance, and fame through immersive storytelling, high-fashion production design, fluid cinematography, and layered sound design that blurs the line between reality and performance.
A short film about being watched can either hide the camera or make it the whole subject. Charli xcx's "Camera" picks the second, pulling back to show the crew, the rigs, and the machinery filming her.
The meta approach is the whole design of this creative video. Shot in black and white, it keeps the boom operators, light stands, and clapperboards in frame, so the artifice of the shoot becomes the point rather than something hidden.
That exposure matches the lyric. The song sits on the tension between "a doll on the screen" and finding something real under the lens, and showing the apparatus makes the performance visibly constructed.
Aidan Zamiri kept the camerawork fluid with Steadicam against the raw, dusty set, a polish-versus-grit contrast that mirrors the "dangerous" feeling in the words. The stark monochrome grade holds it all in one high-fashion register, so the filming process reads as both the medium and the subject.
