- Project Brief: Create a cinematic music video that pairs medieval-inspired visuals, surreal performances, and immersive background music to amplify themes of identity, escapism, and emotional reflection.
A music video usually treats visuals as a backdrop for the track. "Lost Boys" by Phoebe Bridgers flips that with a medieval-inspired world so committed it plays more like a short film than a promo, the imagery carrying as much of the song's ache as the melody.
The concept runs on a masked troupe called "The Knights." Ceremonial costuming, custom prosthetics from Vincent Van Dyke Effects, and helmeted figures around a night bonfire give the piece a cult-like, otherworldly cast that mirrors the lyrics about boys who never grow up or go home.
The typography commits to the same bit. A chrome-edged blackletter "Lost Boys" title and pixelated, medieval-style credit fonts read like an old fantasy game or metal record sleeve, tying the words on screen to the world around them.
The craft sells the mood over any linear plot. Deep-contrast color grading swings from grit to soft vulnerability, stylized animation punctuates the chorus transitions, and even a low-poly game-world credits sequence extends the make-believe rather than breaking it.
Cameos from Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, Alex G, and Caroline Shaw tie the visuals back to the record, one of those video designs with amazing background music where soundtrack and image lift each other into a single emotional read.
