• Project Brief: Create a character-driven animated short that explores identity, physical difference, and intimacy through a surreal, anthropomorphic world.

This animated storytelling builds a world where bodies are hybrid, mismatched, and quietly dissonant, forcing the viewer to confront form as a central narrative constraint rather than a neutral vessel.

Shoes and Hooves visual language leans into softness and imperfection. Figures are stylized but not idealized, their anatomy slightly exaggerated to emphasize tension rather than harmony. The pacing is deliberate, almost still, allowing gestures, proximity, and silence to carry emotional weight. There is no reliance on exposition; meaning emerges through physical interaction and the limits imposed by the characters’ own bodies.

At the center is a relationship defined less by dialogue and more by incompatibility. Attraction exists, but so does friction — literal and symbolic. The film doesn’t resolve this tension; it holds it. That decision becomes the structural backbone of the piece. Rather than forcing transformation or conformity, Shoes and Hooves frames difference as something that cannot always be reconciled, only recognized.

What results is a film that lingers. It asks the viewer to sit with discomfort, to read meaning in absence, and to accept that not all connections are meant to fit cleanly. In a medium often driven by polish and resolution, Shoes and Hooves stands apart by embracing ambiguity as its defining gesture.
