- Project Brief: Design a portfolio website that showcases Scheme Engine's film and TV work through a cinematic, minimalist, and intuitive digital experience.
A portfolio website for a production company has to move like the work it sells. Scheme Engine does that, opening on an animated logo and a warped headline, "We create from the culture we live," before it shows a single director.
The build is the creative flex. A live WebGL shader drives the dark, shifting background, and the display type bends on a curve across the hero video, so the studio reads as cinematic before a showreel plays.
The work view drops the uniform thumbnail grid most studios default to. Director stills scatter across the screen at varied sizes and depths, letting a visitor flip through the roster, from Xavier Dolan and Floria Sigismondi to Charles Todd, like a contact sheet rather than a list.
The Blackpepper Studio kept the navigation to four plain routes under all that motion, so a loud site stays easy to move through. That balance holds the focus on the films and the culture-first, BIPOC-owned mission the copy states outright, which is the right call for a studio selling lived experience on screen.
