- Project Brief: Design a premium mobile app experience that simplifies class discovery through advanced search, voice interaction, and motion design while reinforcing Equinox’s luxury fitness brand.
Mobile app design for luxury fitness brands must prioritize speed and motivation through intuitive interaction patterns and visual restraint.
The Equinox app design focuses on making class discovery effortless while reinforcing a high-end, performance-driven identity through a sophisticated digital interface.
- Search-Centered UX & User Flow: I find the integration of a highly visible search function that supports typing, filtering, and voice input to be a major friction-reducer. This approach respects varied user behaviors in my eyes, allowing members to transition from intent to a confirmed class booking without unnecessary steps.
- Motion, Voice & Feedback Design: The subtle motion elements, particularly the audio wave interaction, add a layer of responsive clarity that I find missing in more static fitness apps. I believe these animations serve a functional purpose by reinforcing my confidence in the interface while maintaining a polished, intuitive feel.
- Visual Restraint & Brand Alignment: The dark-mode interface and controlled typography align perfectly with the premium positioning I expect from a luxury brand like Equinox. I see this level of restraint as a significant strength, as it allows the content and core interactions to take priority over decorative clutter.
- Workflow & Creative Integration: I appreciate the thoughtful design-to-motion workflow that ensures a seamless transition between static layouts and animated interactions. This methodology supports long-term scalability for me, ensuring that future updates can be refined without disrupting the established user experience.
Word from the Agency
“For this project, I utilized Adobe XD, a tool I was using for the first time. Despite my usual preference for Sketch, I found the Adobe suite’s integration to be seamless. The ease with which I could export my artboards to After Effects with a single click was truly mind-blowing. This streamlined workflow made the creation of motion graphics, such as the audio wave icon, a straightforward process.”

What Brands & Designers Can Learn from the Equinox
Here are three key lessons from the Equinox app experience:
1. Center the UX Around User Intent
A highly visible, multi-input search system removes friction between motivation and action. When discovery is effortless, users are more likely to commit in the moment.
2. Use Motion as Functional Feedback
Subtle animations and audio-driven interactions reinforce clarity and responsiveness rather than decoration. Motion is most effective when it builds confidence in the interface.
3. Let Restraint Signal Premium Value
A dark interface, controlled typography, and minimal UI elements reinforce a high-end identity. Luxury digital products succeed when focus and performance take precedence over visual excess.
