Standout features:
- Central, artistic pattern
- Inspired by local culture
- Symmetrical design
Besides the rich, centuries-old Cretan culture, Lefteris Panagoulopoulos' primary inspiration for Smari Cretan Honey packaging design was its very name. Smari is the name of the swarm, formed when the queen and her followers leave a hive in order to create a new one. The hexagons that move freely in space symbolize the bees, which gather together to form a new home.
The queen dominates the center of the hive and the design as well. The perfectly symmetrical shapes suggest a perfectly organized bee society and visual harmony.
Although the color scheme isn't anything out of the ordinary, the balance and color positioning is what makes it stand out. The black and gold color scheme upon the abundant whites calls to mind historical patterns from across the Medditerean area, united into an organized whole, just like a beehive.
