- Project Brief: Create a humorous commercial that showcases the ease of food delivery through comedic storytelling, energetic sound design, and approachable narration that reinforces DoorDash's convenience-first experience.
A commercial should make one point in 30 seconds. This one makes it by overdoing everything except the point. DoorDash Canada's "Not That Dramatic" blows small food cravings up into full period-drama stakes, then deflates them with a two-tap order.
The joke lives in the mismatch between look and stakes. Candlelit stone halls, a heroine in a mournful gown, and the hushed grade of a costume epic all build toward a crisis that turns out to be dinner.
The product placement works as the payoff rather than an interruption. DoorDash arrives as a bright red phone screen dropped into the muted period world, and that visual clash does the comedic work, puncturing the melodrama at the exact beat the joke needs.
Wieden+Kennedy Toronto kept the voiceover loose and conversational against the cinematic staging, and that gap seals the gag. The "Order now" button and the bento box close the spot by paying off the tagline, plain and modern against all the staged gravity.
