- Project Brief: Create a food commercial that revives Dolmio's iconic puppet family through updated character design, humor, and a warm focus on shared mealtimes.
A food commercial celebrating a 40th anniversary could just run the old nostalgia and call it done. Dolmio, working with T&P, revives its famous puppet family instead and gives them a 21st-century glow-up, so the throwback still speaks to how mealtimes work now.
The generational update carries the joke of "The Secret to Papas Content? Delicious Dolmio". Papa keeps his hat, sideburns, and bad dad jokes, but Sophia now has influencer lips and lash extensions and spends the spot filming him for social, which drags a heritage format into the present.
The production dials back the old hard sell. Papa still stretches out "juicy Italian tomatoes," but the ad trusts a sculpted model on the worktop to carry it rather than lingering close-ups of real produce, which makes the brand feel lighter and more current.
The payoff still lands the family at the table under the checked Italian tablecloth. That closing dinner ties the modern gags back to the "when's your Dolmio day?" heart of it, reminding a busier audience that however dinner gets made, it still brings people together.
