  • Project Brief: Create a portfolio website that balances playful visual design with accessible navigation, responsive layouts, and a clear user experience.

A portfolio website usually plays it safe, one medium, one voice, a tidy grid. Child Appetite, the personal site of an artist who signs as Iris, does the opposite.

The hero sets that tone before you scroll. A giant "WELCOME" in blue sits behind a symmetrical guardian mask, all patterned fills and a pink door-knocker ring, staring straight out at you. It is a strange first handshake, and it tells you fast that this is not a polite template.

What keeps the bet from collapsing is a strip of color down the right edge. White, green, and pink blocks stand in for Art, Design, and Shop. They stay pinned as you move around, so you read the site by color before you read the words.

Getting around stays refreshingly blunt. The top menu holds only About, Art, Design, Shop, and Contact, and each project opens onto its own page rather than a crowded gallery. You are never more than a click from the actual work.

The personality lives in the type and the small touches. A looping script wordmark, blocky headlines, a soft serif for the body, and a flower-eye mark that keeps reappearing like a signature. It all feels hand-drawn instead of templated. The one overreach is the sideways section labels, which look great but make you work too hard to find your way the first time.
