- Project Brief: Redesign the website for a science fiction brand and publishing platform as an immersive experience, with e-commerce for books and merchandise and subscription tools for readers and creators.
An entertainment website for a science fiction universe can open like the first scene of a film. Visuable rebuilt Takamo Universe’s site on a black canvas lit by painted starships and a single electric cyan accent.
Takamo Universe started in 1982 as a play-by-mail game in Lincoln, Nebraska. It has since grown into a multiverse of books, digital content, and fan-driven stories.
The hero sets the scale right away. A full-bleed painted starship hangs over a teal planet, with a cyan Dive Into the Lore button below.
Bebas Neue headlines and widely tracked Exo labels give the type a technical, ship-console feel. Looping starfields, nebula gradients, and custom CSS animations add motion as you scroll.
The homepage sketches the universe in short lines. A grid of factions, from agricultural corporations to pirates and empires, gives newcomers a quick sense of who lives here.
Each series gets its own visual treatment, from Muto Chronicles to Aeon Project. A book carousel shows the active cover in full color and fades the side covers to grayscale.
Further down, a spaceship spotlight slider profiles craft like the Naplian Kafir long-range escort fighter. A diagonal-cut image panel adds depth between sections.
Navigation keeps the whole universe in reach. A Titles dropdown sorts stories by series, and a fixed left rail holds search, social links, email, and the cart.
The integrated store lets you browse, preview, and buy books and merchandise with category and availability filters. A membership feature unlocks exclusive content for subscribers, and a dedicated Wiki covers the lore.
Results & Impact
Takamo Universe now has an interactive front door to its mythos, where cinematic art and clear calls to action like Explore and Browse Titles work together. Per Visuable’s case study, the new navigation and product pages raised browsing time and sales conversions, and the project won a Web Excellence Award.
