The studio serves small outdoor and mission-driven organizations in Maine and New England. A typical client is a gear brand a few seasons in, an independent outdoor retailer, a guide service, a land trust, or a nonprofit with a program that deserves a clearer story. Most are run by a founder or a very small team, and most have grown faster than their messaging.
Services build in a fixed order. The Brand, Voice & Audience Foundation comes first and takes six to eight weeks. After that, clients choose what they need: a Social Media Strategy Blueprint, AI Presence & Website Copy (so ChatGPT, Google, and Perplexity describe the brand the way the brand would), Content Engine Setup, a Program or Campaign Launch System, or a 90-Day Content Refresh for returning clients.
What we hand off is meant to be used. Voice rules, message frameworks, and content systems are written plainly enough that a new hire can pick them up, and a founder with no marketing staff can keep the brand consistent on their own budget.
Kristel Hayes runs the studio and does the strategy work herself. She started out selling brands like Buff, Löle, Deuter, and Bergans of Norway to New England outdoor shops, ran a digital marketing practice out of Portland for 14 years, and most recently led marketing for a statewide nonprofit that reaches more than 15,000 Maine kids each winter.
Logo design, web development, photography, video, paid media, and PR are referred out. Designers and developers who partner with Kristel & Co. get a finished brief and a client who already knows what they want to say.
