I studied business management, then spent two decades in rooms where communication decided the outcome. At Oracle I carried a global account book and a $10M quota, and made Quota Club four years running. At Apple I built and delivered presentations for C-suite audiences. Then I founded my own company and raised $110,000 on a deck I built myself.

So I know what an executive audience is listening for. A decision is usually half made before the deck opens, and the deck's job is to give people a reason to finish making it.

Most designers never get that. They are handed someone else's argument and asked to make it look convincing, so they can only work on the surface.

I start with the argument.

That means listening first, then asking the questions your team has avoided. What are you actually trying to say? What would your sharpest competitor say to this claim? If they remember one thing, what is it? Then we strip the narrative to the bone, until what is left is the irreducible thing the room has to accept. Only then do I design anything.

Clients include Chevron, Johnson & Johnson, IBM, Marriott, Philips, Bloomberg, Ogilvy and RAPP. RAPP brought me in having never worked at an agency, then began positioning me across other Omnicom entities. That said more than any compliment about slides.
