- Project Brief: Design a controller-free VR meditation app that delivers an accessible, immersive wellness experience through intuitive gaze-based interactions and calming virtual environments.
Health and wellness apps usually fight for attention on a phone screen. Cosmic Care removes the screen entirely, wrapping retreat participants in a VR meditation environment where the interface disappears into the world itself.
The constraint shaped everything. Built for a location-based VR station at a mindfulness retreat, the app had to work without controllers for participants with little to no VR experience, which rules out nearly every convention the medium leans on. There's no tutorial to fail and no buttons to fumble.
The answer is a gaze-controlled interface. Users navigate by simply looking at objects, holding their gaze to select, and the onboarding covers only the essentials before the practice begins, right down to a line-drawn volume check that asks nothing more than listening. For an audience that came to relax rather than learn a headset, the lightest possible interaction is the correct one.
The art direction does the emotional lifting. JetStyle developed a style it calls "Cosmic Byzantium," rebuilding the retreat's actual chapel from reference photos and setting it among domed spires under a dawn-inspired palette of soft ambers and misted greens. The result reads as sacred without belonging to any single tradition, which suits a meditation program built around inner states.
The spatial design works as quiet UX. Stepping-stone paths give clear visual guidance, glowing mandala prompts pair each session's intention with a start control, and subtle animations and atmospheric effects keep the world alive without demanding attention. Every choice pushes toward orientation and calm, the opposite of the disorientation first-time VR often produces.
The scope ran end to end. JetStyle handled concept development, environment design, 2D and 360° visualization, and full VR production, folding static meditation content into synchronized visuals and dynamic environments. The finished piece turns a retreat station into the rare wellness experience where the technology itself feels like part of the practice.
