Coach Sophisticated Logo Design

Coach Inc. is an American luxury fashion company based in New York City. It was founded in 1941, as a family-run workshop in a loft on 34th Street.

Miles Cahn and his wife Lillian joined the company in 1946. Impressed by the design of a baseball glove, Miles Cahn was inspired to create a handbag with similar attributes.

Working with six leather workers, he created a collection consisting of 12 handbags. Like a baseball glove, these bags were made from tan, supple, high-quality leather and featured excellent stitch work and craftsmanship.

Today, the company is known for accessories for women and men, including handbags, small leather goods, footwear, fragrance, jewelry, and more.

Over the years, Coach also acquired other brands like luxury footwear company Stuart Weitzman and fashion label Kate Spade New York.

In October 2017, it was announced that the consolidated company would now be known as Tapestry Inc. to reflect its growing portfolio of brands.

Coach Sophisticated Typeface

Coach has several logos, but they all follow the basic template, which was designed in 1962 by Bonnie Cashin -- a famous American artist and fashion designer whose name still reigns supreme both among top fashion branding agencies and the industry as a whole. She also created many influential handbag designs for the company, including the famous silver brass toggle.

This iconic logo features an intricate horse-and-carriage illustration filled in with black ink. The carriage is drawn by two horses, as the carriageman sits atop the carriage.

It is reflective of both the company's and New York City's history. This design is centered on the logo and utilizes sharp lines and classic shapes.

Underneath it is a boxed octagonal design, again outlined in black, within which the name of the brand is enclosed, followed by the words “EST. 1941.”

The text used to print the word “Coach” uses a custom typeface designed specifically for the company. The font underneath, stating the year in which the company was established, is simpler and features a classic black font.

Beneath the box are the words “New York,” in well-spaced, uppercase, and easily-readable letters. The logo is offset against a white background, ensuring that the detailed design elements are visible.

The Coach logo is a symbol of luxury, elegance, social status, and dignity, and has a classic feel to it.

Coach Logo Design

As leading logo design companies dictate, the logo is versatile, often used without the box and the text underneath, by simply keeping the horse-drawn carriage design along with a bold, heavy rendition of the company’s name.

A different version of the logo simply uses the octagonal box with curved edges, with the word “Coach” enclosed within it in bold, modern lettering.

A fourth -- and very popular -- Coach logo is the one used on the brand’s bags: A simple pair of two letters 'C' facing each other. This twin-C pattern is repeated in order to create a design featuring horizontal and vertical symmetrical effects.

Coach Iconic Logo Design

The Coach logo is rooted in history and heritage, but is also adaptable and scalable, ensuring that it stays contemporarily relevant.

Coach is a sophisticated logo design in the E-commerce & Retail, Fashion & Beauty and Luxury industries.
