Team Behind the Design

Agency: Storm Brain
Client: Coast Volleyball
Category: Website Design — Sports
Location: San Diego, California, United States
Project Brief: Redesign Coast Volleyball’s website to strengthen its online presence and streamline communication for athletes, parents, and prospective members through a clean UX, clear program structure, and modern sports-driven visual system.

Coast Volleyball is one of Southern California’s long-standing youth programs, known for its competitive culture, strong coaching, and deep community roots.

To modernize its digital presence, Storm Brain redesigned the website with bold sports visuals, intuitive navigation, and clear program pathways that help families quickly understand offerings, schedules, and club values.

Website Design Analysis

Coast Volleyball programs page by Storm Brain.

When I assess a sports website design, I check how quickly it conveys identity, how clear the layout feels, and whether the visuals match the program’s personality.

Storm Brain’s work for Coast Volleyball captures the club’s drive while keeping the experience simple for parents.

  • Branding & Storytelling: The hero’s photo-masked typography sets the tone right away. I like how the athletes show through the lettering — it’s a strong editorial move that feels modern and competitive without overpowering the layout.
  • Visual Design & UI: Bold condensed headlines carry clear sports energy, while the circular image crops soften that intensity and keep long scroll sections steady. This mix gives the site a rhythm that feels athletic yet still comfortable for families moving through programs.
  • UX & Program Structure: Program sections stay clean and easy to skim. I appreciate how gender groups, seasonal options, and age brackets are organized with very little noise, which helps parents find the right path fast.
  • Lifestyle & Culture: Sections like “By the Numbers” and “Our Story” add a personal layer. I like how Storm Brain uses light-washed background photos and steady typography to highlight achievements and heritage without breaking the calm tone of the page.

What Brands & Agencies Can Learn from Coast Volleyball

Coast Volleyball about page by Storm Brain.

Coast Volleyball’s redesign shows how youth sports programs can combine energy, clarity, and culture into a unified digital experience.

1. Use typography to create instant emotional impact

Sports brands benefit from bold, condensed type that communicates strength and momentum. When typography carries personality, it quickly sets expectations for performance and culture.

2. Let image shapes drive visual rhythm

Circular photography adds softness and editorial polish while maintaining athletic focus. Repeating consistent shapes helps long pages stay organized and visually memorable.

3. Simplify program navigation for busy families

Clear segmentation, large titles, and minimal text help parents find the right programs quickly. Reducing cognitive load in information-heavy sections creates a better experience and improves conversion.
