You know that scene in Christmas Vacation where Clark gets a Jelly of the Month club "gift" instead of a bonus? Well, that's the equivalent of what we just got from HPG. After using HPG as both our business and personal accountants for YEARS, we received a letter in the mail on Christmas Eve (!) stating that, effective immediately, they would no longer be our accountants due to a staffing shortage. There was no warning months or weeks ahead (I assume this staffing issue didn't suddenly arise on December 24), no phone call, no referral to a different accountant, no consideration that year-end taxes and the work therein goes into high gear just 8 days later. Just buhbye.We were not happy with their overpriced yet mediocre service, but it's a real pain to find a new accountant, so we stayed. I guess we can thank them for their lack of any sort of consideration or care towards us, as it forces us to finally find a better fit.

Should you use HPG for accounting services? Yes, if you want your payroll tax submissions to be filed late and have to pay late fees. Yes, if you don't expect to get any email or phone responses from their partners. Yes, if you expect to pay higher fees than other accounting firms. We have been with Wiss for about (11) years now, so I believe we know their firm fairly well.At the start, they immediately saved us a considerable amount of tax liability in Year 1 and moving forward over the years. As we are a global corporation with many subsidiaries, they also made some recommendations as far as restructuring to take advantage of other more technical issues.We primarily use Wiss for our annual general accounting audit, tax preparations and filings, and 401K audit. They also assist from time to time regarding international related issues. As with many companies, changes of personnel do occur from time to time, but they have always made these as seamless as possible.We have also experienced Federal and State audits, which they have also guided us thru from A to Z.In summary, we value Wiss as a partner with our company and have always experienced a very positive, professional and full service relationship.

My Experience with SAR Professional Corporation: I hired SAR to manage my company's corporate taxes and had a one-hour introductory meeting to explore the possibility of working together. As part of the process, I signed a Letter of Engagement and paid an initial deposit of $1,000, which was stated to be non-refundable. After our meeting, I reached out with a bookkeeping question to prepare for the upcoming corporate tax work. To my surprise, I was told I would need to pay an additional $500 for a 30-minute Q&A session, which I didn’t need as I just had a clarification question related to the bookkeeping. This extra fee was unexpected, as I hadn’t been informed beforehand that asking for a question for clarification purposes would incur an additional cost. In my experience, it’s not common for accountants to charge for basic follow-up questions, especially before any substantial work has begun. A few months later, I had the opportunity to sell my business, and the buyer preferred to use their accountant for the corporate tax filing. Given that SAR had not yet filed any taxes, I requested a refund of the deposit $1,000. However, SAR declined, citing the non-refundable clause in the contract. They explained that the fee was justified by the time spent preparing the "Letter of Engagement" and the introductory meeting. While I understand the contractual terms, I felt that the $1,000 fee was disproportionate for what amounted to a standard letter and a meet-and-greet session, something that most accountants do without charging upfront. I respect the terms of the agreement, but I believe it’s important for potential clients to carefully review the non-refundable clauses and understand the full scope of what’s covered in the initial fees. In my case, I feel the situation could have been handled with more flexibility, and I share this experience to encourage others to be thorough before making any financial commitments with this business.

I worked with nancy lehrman who works with SDK since the merger of SDK and Leherman Flom and Lehrman in handling my mothers estate, my grandmothers estate and my personal taxes. while handling my mothers estate she worked with lehrman flom and lerhman which was absorbed into sdk. The funny thing is I did not know this until long after fact. which is amusing considering the tens of thousands of dollars that I was paying to Nancy to handle closing the estates of both my mother and grandmother, you would have thunk that deserved a phone call or email, but I didn't get one, this is a reacurring theme with my experience with both Nancy and SDK.She mis filed my personal taxes for 2015 for the state of minnesota resulting in a fine that I had to pay, and went awol towards the end of 2016 through out 2017 while handling my grandmothers estate on both the state and federal level. My grandmothers estate could have been closed by the end of 2016/ early 2017. However, since Nancy completely abdicated her professional responsibilities the eventual closure of the estate did not happen until late winter spring 2018 close to two and a half year after my grandmother passed.I personally went through a difficult time. My family was small consisting of my mother, her sister, and my grandmother. within 13 months I lost both my mother and then my grandmother in that order and I was coming to the grips that at the age of 32 I was pretty much completely alone, without any family in my life. the ammount of work that I needed Nancy to do by the end of 2016 would have taken hours at the most. yet she did not complete this work until winter 2018, further delaying the closure during an extremely difficult time of my life.I am saying this because it is not about money, it is about transformation and trying to get over difficult times. yes I paid nancy a lot of money to handle my families business and yes I expect a certain amount of attention because I am spending that money. Thisis a completely reasonable expectation of a service. after receiving only 3 or 4 responses to countless phone calls and emails over a 18 month period of time I really started to get angry.the problem is Nancy doesn't care, SDK doesn't care, they will tell you that they are accountable and responsible until you shine a light on their fallacies. once that happens they will hide in their cave until you go away. I tried to air my grievances with a managing partner at sdk. I left many messages, never received a response. this is a symptom of a culture amongst this organization.If you are looking for dependable and responsible accountants to handle your financial affairs. I recommend you avoid SDK at all costs.since parting ways with nancy and sdk I went to Abdo EICK AND MEYERS LLP. My experience has been great. check them out.

Not bad for taxes. Communication is horrid and nobody knows what’s going on. They act like they do, but they don’t. They prioritize “keeping clients” over quality and trust. I've been a client of Harrison's Accountancy for several years and they are superb, seamless, effective and very professional. Had a terrible experience with Gheen & Co. They managed our books and taxes for a few years. From the beginning the communication was spotty, they never answer the phone and get back to emails at a snails pace. On top of that they missed $40,000 in taxes we owed and never alerted us it was due. We had to hire a third party book keeper and it took them months to fix the mess they made in our quickbooks. After canceling with them they sent us a bill for our 2023 tax filing with was completed looong time ago.
