I had no idea that I was missing out on tax refunds from previous years that I was entitled to until I talked with Steve Warren at SDK! On a chance meeting with Steve, following disappointing results with a former accountancy firm, I reached out to him. Steve confirmed that I should have received tax refunds from previous years. He "went to work" and proved to be helpful in explaining what needed to be done and with his diligence, research and smart ideas recovered one large refund check and is working on obtaining a second one for me - in short order! I am also working with Steve with both financial and non financial aspects of my estate plan that I am currently putting together. Steve has once again proven to be very knowledgeable, creative and invaluable in my estate planning. I feel fortunate to have "found him"!

I worked with nancy lehrman who works with SDK since the merger of SDK and Leherman Flom and Lehrman in handling my mothers estate, my grandmothers estate and my personal taxes. while handling my mothers estate she worked with lehrman flom and lerhman which was absorbed into sdk. The funny thing is I did not know this until long after fact. which is amusing considering the tens of thousands of dollars that I was paying to Nancy to handle closing the estates of both my mother and grandmother, you would have thunk that deserved a phone call or email, but I didn't get one, this is a reacurring theme with my experience with both Nancy and SDK. She mis filed my personal taxes for 2015 for the state of minnesota resulting in a fine that I had to pay, and went awol towards the end of 2016 through out 2017 while handling my grandmothers estate on both the state and federal level. My grandmothers estate could have been closed by the end of 2016/ early 2017. However, since Nancy completely abdicated her professional responsibilities the eventual closure of the estate did not happen until late winter spring 2018 close to two and a half year after my grandmother passed. I personally went through a difficult time. My family was small consisting of my mother, her sister, and my grandmother. within 13 months I lost both my mother and then my grandmother in that order and I was coming to the grips that at the age of 32 I was pretty much completely alone, without any family in my life. the ammount of work that I needed Nancy to do by the end of 2016 would have taken hours at the most. yet she did not complete this work until winter 2018, further delaying the closure during an extremely difficult time of my life. I am saying this because it is not about money, it is about transformation and trying to get over difficult times. yes I paid nancy a lot of money to handle my families business and yes I expect a certain amount of attention because I am spending that money. Thisis a completely reasonable expectation of a service. after receiving only 3 or 4 responses to countless phone calls and emails over a 18 month period of time I really started to get angry. the problem is Nancy doesn't care, SDK doesn't care, they will tell you that they are accountable and responsible until you shine a light on their fallacies. once that happens they will hide in their cave until you go away. I tried to air my grievances with a managing partner at sdk. I left many messages, never received a response. this is a symptom of a culture amongst this organization. If you are looking for dependable and responsible accountants to handle your financial affairs. I recommend you avoid SDK at all costs. since parting ways with nancy and sdk I went to Abdo EICK AND MEYERS LLP. My experience has been great. check them out.

Had a terrible experience with Gheen & Co. They managed our books and taxes for a few years. From the beginning the communication was spotty, they never answer the phone and get back to emails at a snails pace. On top of that they missed $40,000 in taxes we owed and never alerted us it was due. We had to hire a third party book keeper and it took them months to fix the mess they made in our quickbooks. After canceling with them they sent us a bill for our 2023 tax filing with was completed looong time ago.

They were nice and respectful on the surface—but that didn’t stop them from stealing from me behind the scenes. If you’re a business owner, beware. Do your homework. You know that scene in Christmas Vacation where Clark gets a Jelly of the Month club "gift" instead of a bonus? Well, that's the equivalent of what we just got from HPG. After using HPG as both our business and personal accountants for YEARS, we received a letter in the mail on Christmas Eve (!) stating that, effective immediately, they would no longer be our accountants due to a staffing shortage. There was no warning months or weeks ahead (I assume this staffing issue didn't suddenly arise on December 24), no phone call, no referral to a different accountant, no consideration that year-end taxes and the work therein goes into high gear just 8 days later. Just buhbye. We were not happy with their overpriced yet mediocre service, but it's a real pain to find a new accountant, so we stayed. I guess we can thank them for their lack of any sort of consideration or care towards us, as it forces us to finally find a better fit.

Should you use HPG for accounting services? Yes, if you want your payroll tax submissions to be filed late and have to pay late fees. Yes, if you don't expect to get any email or phone responses from their partners. Yes, if you expect to pay higher fees than other accounting firms. Yes, if you expect your account relationship to be mishandled and evenually dropped. If these are your expectation of accounting services, then I recommend them.

NOW CFO did a great job helping my aunt's nail salon business clean up their books. Their old accountant wasn't using GAAP financials. NOW CFO made our numbers GAAP quickly and gave timely, clean, helpful financial reporting every month. They did such a nice job we kept them in as our long-term, permanent solution on the finance and accounting side. Highly recommended!

We tried hiring a fraction CFO to help clean up finances. Tens of thousands of dollars and 10 months later we were in a worse spot than where we began. We had two separate companies review the work done by Now CFO and both of them said it was the worst set of financials that they’ve ever seen. Despite multiple calls, all the evidence in the world, they were unable to acknowledge they did anything less than perfect work. They are the most expensive, over $200 per hour, for a fractional CFO. Unfortunately it was a complete waste of money and disappointing that we received no help and had to redo almost everything that they did.

We used Honeck O'Toole for over two years. The first year we had no issues, we paid $400 for our return and had a good relationship with Sue and Joyce. The second year everything was going well, until we received an invoice for 6x (2400+) the previous year's return. We had spoken to them on several occasions and were expecting a higher bill, however we were expecting maybe 500-600 more, not 2000 more! We asked for an itemized invoice since we were shocked and confused by the 600% markup. We ultimately called and paid the invoice in full and offered to prepay for the upcoming tax return since we wanted to salvage the relationship and we were late paying the previous bill since we needed to understand the charges. We were told by Kathy that she needed to check on the cost and would get back to us. We then received a letter in the mail, firing us as a client in the MIDDLE OF FEBRUARY.

Not bad for taxes. Communication is horrid and nobody knows what’s going on. They act like they do, but they don’t. They prioritize “keeping clients” over quality and trust. Not for nothing but there always seems to be some kind of excuse for why they can’t help me. They should hire more staff instead of putting me down. It causes me more stress. Not good for business solutions if you’re looking for clarity. They could do a lot better if they were more “real” with clients.

I had someone from this company messaged me about what seemed to be an interesting job posting at first glance. I tried to ask them a question about the job posting. They tried to dodge the question more than once, refusing to answer me. Also, according to their recruiter, they got my resume, which is clearly outdated, from some scammy website. Claimed to have called my number but clearly isn’t the case. They act very aggressive too. If they do contact you, run.
