As an accounting firm I would give them 1 star. I recently discovered a litany of deductions they failed to consider. You will be given an EA, which is just a glorified tax preparer. They will know nothing and be slow to reply. You might as well get your taxes done by H&R block or a proper independent CPA. If these folks do your taxes, get prepared for a larger tax bill. I strongly advise against it.

Takes absolutely forever. No one to follow up to make sure all members of your “team“ are moving as they should. You can’t just call and get somebody on the phone. You have to schedule a time with them which could sometimes be months only for them to tell you they’re missing paperwork, Or “I’m not sure that’s not my department” or in my case, oh your person is no longer with the company. I have to reassign you to a new person! I had two months of business tax paperwork to combine with my personal tax paperwork and here it is August 2025 and those are still not done!! As a new business owner, I thought I was doing the right thing by hiring a team because I knew I had no business messing around with any numbers, but I have been so stressed out and Creating more work for myself after hiring them, then I would have with any other company. Don’t make the same mistake I did! stay away!

My experience has always been excellent with Brown Edwards, especially with Pat Murtaugh. I wanted to reach out and personally thank Brown Edwards! Specifically Bradley. I recently lost my mother, father and brother and inherited some money and investments. Me, being a scared 20 something year old grieving the loss of my family, reached out to my financial advisor who told me brown edwards could help me. He notified me in advanced of the expensive cost of their services but I was more than willing to pay the price to have peace of mind and the help of experts. I called brown edwards and was transferred to Bradley P. We discussed the cost and I notified him I was more than willing to pay that price. Bradley laughed and kindly notified me that they typically only handle the “top of the top in Roanoke”and said i could be better served by a company that rhymes with “hr clock”. So, I contacted that company and guess what? The man I spoke with actually used to work for Brown Edwards! He left his position there to travel the world and Spend time with his family, And he was able to help me and my silly step up in basis concerns, at only a fraction of the cost! So I personally would love to thank Bradley for laughing in the face of a scared young woman who lost each and every one of her immediate family members, for making me cry when I was at my lowest, and recommending a different company. I will also add the receptionist was 10/10 she was very sweet and apologized on his behalf

Had a terrible experience with Gheen & Co. They managed our books and taxes for a few years. From the beginning the communication was spotty, they never answer the phone and get back to emails at a snails pace. On top of that they missed $40,000 in taxes we owed and never alerted us it was due. We had to hire a third party book keeper and it took them months to fix the mess they made in our quickbooks. After canceling with them they sent us a bill for our 2023 tax filing with was completed looong time ago.

Computer technology has vastly improved many of our lives, even in the non-profit world. The issues are cost, reliability and maintenance. It is too much for a small business owner to become an expert in these areas. I'm not even sure it is possible. Having a partner - a paid vendor, yes, but a still a partner that respects your budget, responds quickly to problems as they arrive, and proactively seeks to protect your network from crashes and malware is invaluable. We feel like we have that partner with Whittlesey Technologies. Every year we meet to discuss vendor agreements and performance. Whittlesey Technologies has never been considered for replacement. They are our partner.

As an audit prep consultant, my experience dealing with Fruci's PCAOB audit practice was terrible - no sense of urgency, seemingly understaffed engagement team, they'll get to it when they get to it, no interest in resolving issues, no options if stuck with problematic engagement team. Not good for public companies.Everything seemed great fee-wise and capacity-wise leading up to client engaging Fruci. 5 weeks after uploading initial information for 10-Q reviews and after a few follow-ups, engagement partner sent a handful of general requests from some template audit request list and took another 4 weeks just to get a first round of comments on a draft.Never once heard from the assigned staff member - only from the engagement partner. No detailed requests or questions specifically related to the underlying accounting info provided - only partner level questions and comments on the draft.Given no apparent movement, followed up repeatedly with phone calls and emails over the next few weeks, resulting in responses ranging from nothing, to "7 to 10 days," to "next week," to "potentially tomorrow," to "we'll get to it when we get to it" attitude to "now that the Q deadline has passed, I will get back to focusing on getting [CLIENT] out."2.5 months in with no meaningful progress and yet another week about to slip by, attempted to follow up with engagement partner on status and then escalated concerns to managing partner, engagement partner and other partners as a group and asked them to prioritize the engagement and get the job done. Managing partner deflected and deferred back to engagement partner for timing (which didn't solve existing problem, of course). Rather than finding a way to make it right and get the job done, engagement partner took offense and fired client.Fruci could have simply told client up front they didn't have capacity, didn't actually intend to complete the work and/or planned to get it done in some unknown number of months or years at their leisure.

I am a shareholder in a publicly traded company that uses Fruci as their auditors, the audit was supposed to be completed in May, well what do you know, it's October 25th and the audit is still not completed causing the shareholders a lot of unnecessary stress because the share price keeps on falling due to the delay in the audit, I wish they would have been honest and upfront and not take a job that is to complicated for them to handle.

It used to be be people stood up for what they promissed, But that has changed, I have been a client since my old Cpa retired a few years ago and Charles was great, I fear that the new generation is not. I migrated my quickbooks over to be online and although that is not what I wanted, quickbooks made it so thats really what I had to do. Phil assured me that it was time to move, it would be easy, it would be more expensive but I would need to do it, if not this year then next. So to seal the deal he said, and if you had questions or problems migrating you dont need to call quickbooks, we will take care of that, you just call us. Well that sounded worthwhile even though I dont use it a lot, waiting on hold for an hour a couple times a year is a hassle. Well i certainly understand time is money, but I didnt understand well enough. The transition was not as simple as supposed, but i thought its okay Phil has our back and will work it out. After Phil ignored two emails for a week got a bill for $195 above and beyond any agreed upon set up, after telling us to ask questions directly. Now we have a subscription and the possibity of incurring additional feesmoving forward. make sure you dont use the handshake method here, do yourself a favor and get a contract. I hate thats how things are but it is what it is.
