      Branding Review from Shira S

We partnered with Agency Squid to refine and elevate our brand identity for a SaaS platform in the B2B space. Operating in a competitive landscape, we needed strong positioning, messaging clarity, and a compelling visual presence to stand out. From the very beginning, the Agency Squid team demonstrated a deep understanding of our market, challenges, and goals. They asked the right questions, offered valuable strategic insights, and walked us through a structured branding process that was both collaborative and efficient. The outcome was a refreshed brand strategy that clearly communicates our core value, differentiators, and relevance to our target audience. We received high-impact messaging frameworks and creative assets that are now integrated into our website, sales materials, and marketing campaigns. What we appreciated most was their thoughtful, ego-free approach and consistent responsiveness. Every milestone was met on time, and they were always open to feedback, ensuring we were aligned throughout the project. This branding work has already improved our sales conversations, marketing performance, and overall brand perception. It was a seamless and professional experience, and were excited to continue working with Agency Squid in the future.

Agency Squid is truly unlike any other ad agency out there. There is no ego involved and they listen to what their clients needs are while still challenging them to think about things differently. The smaller but mighty team is well rounded and each bring a different perspective to the table. I would recommend them for any design/marketing, product promotion or special project. Doesn’t hurt that their workplace is so cool too!

Sharing our students' incredible stories is crucial to connecting with more people with mobility challenges who could benefit from our TangoStride Program. The team at RH Strategic took an interest in our mission and generously offered to spread the word pro bono. They pitched our story to just the right people, and landed us two local media stories with major news channels Q13 Fox and KING 5! Not only were they instrumental in our outreach to the Greater Seattle community, but they were extremely knowledgeable about the media process and their guidance was invaluable. Thank you, RH Strategic for helping us help people "Dance to Walk" with TangoStride!

Liminal PDX is hands down the coolest place I've discovered since moving to SW Portland. I stumbled upon this awesome novelty shop by accident and was like, “Whoa!” Y’know? “Whoa!” You KNOOOW. The store is full of curious, cool, and mysterious handcrafted items, most of which are made by the owner herself, Allison. What's special (and about damn time) is Liminal’s dedication to embracing and celebrating the unique perspectives of neurodiversity. As a creative person who has had trouble finding "my people" since moving to Portland, I've never felt more at home in a space. Allison, who runs the shop, is welcoming and we became fast friends. I attended one of her card-making workshops and had such a great experience. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, and people made scrappy collages while others made beautiful little masterpieces. It was inspiring to be part of such a diverse, creative environment. I also attended a movie night, complete with a projector, retro lawn chairs, and good energy. Allison is a creative powerhouse and it's contagious. If you're looking for a welcoming, creative community or just want to find sick treasures - yes TREASURES, Liminal PDX is absolutely worth a visit. If you’ve made it to the bottom of this review, I will personally shake your hand if we ever cross paths. And if you don't like shaking hands, I will tip my hat to you. And if I'm not wearing a hat that day, will you please buy me one from Liminal so I can tip my hat to you?

Hiring OVO to help drive the rebranding efforts for our business that was recently acquired was one of the best business decisions I have made in my 25+ years as a marketing professional! After an international search, OVO stood out for their strategic, collaborative and experienced approach. We are a niche B2B solutions company with a complicated business model. The team at OVO were quick to understand our unique challenges, they expertly guided us through a renaming process and simplified how we communicate our value to the market. Our new company now has a strong foundation and strategy that will fuel the growth that we seek. This was clearly the best agency hire and I highly recommend them!

I just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with our experience with OVO. Rebranding can be a daunting project. Picking a partner to help you through the process is like handing your baby over to a stranger. OVO’s expertise and insights made us confident that we made the right choice. As we went through the process, your team continually impressed us with elegant and concise approaches in each of the many stages. You listened and created an end product that was truly “us”. We could not be happier. The results have brought many compliments from existing clients and partners, and have yielded more positive results from prospective clients

If you are looking for a work environment that is encouraging and want to help you to grow as a professional then this is the place you would want to work in! I worked as a front-end developer intern at Think201 and my overall experience was great. I learnt the best of skills and good practices, to work with the most trending and latest technologies. I am grateful to find the best mentors who helped me to learn the tech in the coolest and simplest way possible. Everyone in the team was helpful and with the help of the teammates all the challenges felt interesting. My journey of 6 months was full of excitement and learning the newest stuff. Also as a fresher in the industry, I learnt professionalism at work that I'll carry on for my lifetime. I would recommend everyone to be a part of the Think201 team and renown themselves as a Thinker.

I have been working with Think201 since Feb 2021. I would surely say that Think201 turned out to be one of the best organizations I ever worked with. The management team was so dedicated to ensure constant effort in making everyone feel valued. The work culture is amazing and absolutely transparent. Learning opportunities are quite a lot and everyone here is always inspiring each other. The work condition and policies are well structured and abreast. Their open door policy and truly informal organizational culture are what urged me to join the team and they really lived up to my expectation if not more! The fact I love the most about Think201 is that there is no drama but recognition for every single effort I take for its development. I am truly very happy to be a part of this organization. The work seems challenging, even though the support is tremendous every single day. Highly recommended for fresh graduates and those who are looking for a long term stable position.

7 Frequently Asked Questions About Business Consulting Firms

What types of problems do consulting agencies typically solve?

They usually solve problems that are too important, too cross-functional, or too urgent for an internal team to handle alone. Business owners hire business consultants when they need to grow, improve execution, manage risk, or change how the business runs.

  • Strategy and growth problems: Businesses hire a strategy consulting firm when they know the current path is not strong enough, but have not yet agreed on the next move. PwC’s 2025 Global CEO Survey found that 42% of CEOs say their company will remain viable for less than 10 years if it stays on its current path. Organizations rely on business consulting agencies when they need help with their growth strategy and when they want to learn how to compete.
  • Digital transformation and technology gaps: Business consulting firms help businesses turn technology spending into measurable operating results. Gartner reported that only 48% of digital initiatives meet or exceed their business outcome targets. McKinsey reported that 78% of organizations use AI in at least one business function, yet more than 80% say they are not seeing a tangible enterprise-level EBIT impact from generative AI.
  • Operational performance problems: Consultants help with low productivity, weak margins, slow throughput, poor planning, supply chain instability, inventory problems, and uneven service delivery across business units or geographies. They redesign processes, improve decision rights, cut waste, and build a more resilient operating model.
  • Organizational and talent issues: A business consulting company can redesign organizational structure, clarify accountability, improve governance, support transformation offices, and build workforce capability. ManpowerGroup reported that 72% of employers are having difficulty filling roles, based on a survey of 39,000 employers across 41 countries. Consulting work increasingly includes workforce planning, reskilling, and change management, not just strategy decks.
  • Risk management, resilience, or crisis exposure problems: A consulting firm helps with cybersecurity, regulatory response, geopolitical shocks, technology disruption, and business continuity. According to IBM, the global average cost of a data breach reached $4.88 million, and 70% of breached organizations said their operations were significantly or moderately disrupted. When risk starts affecting operations, cost, customer trust, or board-level decisions, companies often bring in consultants because they need both specialist expertise and fast execution.

How much do business consulting services cost?

Business consulting costs vary widely depending on the type of firm, the problem being solved, and the pricing model.

Hourly rates

  • Small business consultants: $75
  • General business consultants: $100-$250
  • Experienced specialists: $250-$500+
  • High-end or niche experts: $500-$1,000+

For ongoing advisory or support, business consulting firms charge monthly fees:

  • Small business retainers: up to $2,500/month
  • Mid-market or specialized retainers: $5,000-$25,000+/month

Top-tier consulting firms such as Deloitte Consulting LLP and McKinsey consultants charge differently, since they bill clients for the entire team's fee rather than individual fees.

  • Pricing is often $100,000 to $1M+ per project
  • Weekly team costs can reach tens of thousands of dollars, depending on seniority and scope

What should be included in a consulting proposal?

Business consultants should provide a strong proposal that removes uncertainty for the client. It should clearly define the problem, the approach, the expected outcomes, and the commercial terms.

A strong consulting proposal should answer four questions clearly:

  • What problem are you solving?
  • How will you solve it?
  • What results should we expect?
  • What will it cost and how long will it take?

How do I avoid getting locked into a long-term consulting relationship that doesn’t deliver measurable value?

You need to structure the relationship around clear outcomes, short commitments, and accountability from the start. Most consulting projects don't succeed because of unclear expectations and weak performance tracking. According to McKinsey & Company, only about 30% of large business transformation programs fully achieve their goals, often due to unclear objectives and weak tracking.

You should set a clear baseline, define target improvements, and agree on a timeline. For example, instead of saying you need to improve operations, set the goal to reduce operating costs by 10% within six months.

Avoid large upfront commitments and start with a short diagnostic or pilot phase, which can last 4 to 8 weeks, and include a formal review point before moving forward.

Define a clear scope of work and deliverables. The agreement should specify exactly what the business consulting firm will deliver, when those deliverables are due, and what is explicitly out of scope.

To avoid long-term dependency, require knowledge transfer to your internal team. This includes documentation, tools, and training that allow your staff to operate independently after the project ends.

What results should I realistically expect from a consulting agency?

Business consulting companies should offer a measurable business impact. Depending on the project, a measurable business impact may include cost reduction, revenue growth, improved margins, faster processes, or higher productivity.

A good consulting agency should deliver clear strategic direction, measurable performance improvements, faster execution, specialized expertise, and lasting internal capabilities. You should expect expert knowledge that will help your organization become more capable than it was before.

What information should I prepare before reaching out?

Prepare enough information to clearly explain your problem, your goals, and your current performance, so that the agency can assess the fit quickly and give you a realistic proposal.

At a minimum, you should be ready to share:

  • A clear description of the problem (what’s not working, where, and why it matters)
  • Your business goals (what success looks like in measurable terms)
  • Key performance data (revenue, margins, growth trends, or operational metrics)
  • Any existing initiatives or strategies already in progress
  • Your budget range and expected timeline
  • Who the key decision-makers are

What is the difference between boutique consulting firms and large consultancies?

The difference comes down to scale, specialization, cost, and how work is delivered. Boutique business consulting firms tend to be focused and flexible, while large consultancies offer broader capabilities and global reach.

Boutique consulting firms Large consultancies
Focus on a specific industry or problem (e.g., pricing, supply chain, AI). Offer a wide range of services across industries (strategy, tech, operations, risk).
Small, senior-led teams with direct involvement from experienced consultants. Larger, layered teams (partners, managers, analysts) with more standardized delivery.
More adaptable, faster decision-making, and customized approaches.  Strong global presence, established frameworks, and ability to handle large, complex transformations.
Often more cost-efficient for targeted projects. Higher fees due to brand, scale, and large team involvement.
Deep focus on specific problems with hands-on execution. Structured methodologies, often combining strategy with large-scale implementation programs.
