      Capactix Business Solutions provides bookkeeping and other accounting services for us. At the start of the engagement, we had an introductory call. Capactix Business Solution explained their services and how they support small businesses. I had an onboarding call with one of their accountants, who helped me set up our financial documents and reports. They send me monthly financial reports and complete other projects as requested. They have given me access to an online accounting portal where I can view all our financial statements. They also prepare and submit our taxes and manage our payroll. Their service package also includes the preparation of my personal taxes. They have begun implementing electronic signatures on documents.Capactix Business Solutions has given me free bits of business advice, and were planning to hire them for consulting services later this year. Initially, I spoke with the owner, who connected me to the main accountant that I now stay in contact with. There is another teammate who reaches out to me with questions on occasion. We are able to make better decisions and be more mindful of our costs using the documents and reports they have set up. This visibility is especially important as the economy is softening. Their tax preparation process is smooth since they track our finances throughout the year. Its helpful to have them onboard; with their services, we dont need to manage an in-house bookkeeper.

      Had a terrible experience with Gheen & Co. They managed our books and taxes for a few years. From the beginning the communication was spotty, they never answer the phone and get back to emails at a snails pace. On top of that they missed $40,000 in taxes we owed and never alerted us it was due. We had to hire a third party book keeper and it took them months to fix the mess they made in our quickbooks. After canceling with them they sent us a bill for our 2023 tax filing with was completed looong time ago.

      SEC filers beware. As an audit prep consultant, my experience dealing with Fruci's PCAOB audit practice was terrible - no sense of urgency, seemingly understaffed engagement team, they'll get to it when they get to it, no interest in resolving issues, no options if stuck with problematic engagement team. Not good for public companies.Everything seemed great fee-wise and capacity-wise leading up to client engaging Fruci. 5 weeks after uploading initial information for 10-Q reviews and after a few follow-ups, engagement partner sent a handful of general requests from some template audit request list and took another 4 weeks just to get a first round of comments on a draft.Never once heard from the assigned staff member - only from the engagement partner. No detailed requests or questions specifically related to the underlying accounting info provided - only partner level questions and comments on the draft.Given no apparent movement, followed up repeatedly with phone calls and emails over the next few weeks, resulting in responses ranging from nothing, to "7 to 10 days," to "next week," to "potentially tomorrow," to "we'll get to it when we get to it" attitude to "now that the Q deadline has passed, I will get back to focusing on getting [CLIENT] out."2.5 months in with no meaningful progress and yet another week about to slip by, attempted to follow up with engagement partner on status and then escalated concerns to managing partner, engagement partner and other partners as a group and asked them to prioritize the engagement and get the job done. Managing partner deflected and deferred back to engagement partner for timing (which didn't solve existing problem, of course). Rather than finding a way to make it right and get the job done, engagement partner took offense and fired client.Fruci could have simply told client up front they didn't have capacity, didn't actually intend to complete the work and/or planned to get it done in some unknown number of months or years at their leisure.

The audit team obviously has some issues in organization, follow up, and might I add basic customer service skills might I add. Negative manipulative environment that just wants peoples money.       I am a shareholder in a publicly traded company that uses Fruci as their auditors, the audit was supposed to be completed in May, well what do you know, it's October 25th and the audit is still not completed causing the shareholders a lot of unnecessary stress because the share price keeps on falling due to the delay in the audit, I wish they would have been honest and upfront and not take a job that is to complicated for them to handle.

Tax companies usually raise prices when returns become more complex. Multiple income sources, self-employment, rental property, investments, and business filings all increase the cost. Large firms, CPAs, and firms in high-cost cities also tend to charge more.

Most tax companies prepare and file tax returns, but cannot represent clients during an audit unless they employ licensed professionals such as CPAs or Enrolled Agents. Only those credentials allow full representation before the IRS. 

Do best tax companies offer Identity Protection (IP) PINs?

No. Tax companies do not issue Identity Protection PINs. 

The IRS issues the Identity Protection PIN directly to taxpayers to prevent tax fraud and identity theft. Tax companies can help you request or manage the PIN during tax filing, but they cannot generate or assign one. 

The PIN is a six-digit code that must be included when filing a tax return. It confirms your identity and prevents someone else from filing a return using your Social Security number. 

What happens if a tax company has a data breach?

Tax preparation companies must report the breach, notify clients, and take steps to stop tax fraud. 

If a tax company experiences a data breach, federal rules require immediate action to protect taxpayer information and prevent fraudulent filings. 

Required actions include: 

  • Report the breach to the IRS to help block fraudulent tax returns linked to stolen taxpayer data. 
  • Notify state tax agencies and law enforcement, such as the FBI or Secret Service. 
  • Inform affected clients that their personal or financial information may be compromised. 
  • Investigate the breach by hiring cybersecurity or forensic experts to identify how the data was accessed and stop further exposure. 

Tax preparation firms must also follow the FTC Safeguards Rule, which requires them to maintain a written security plan that protects taxpayer data.
