Amazon is giving away $10 to customers that opt to pick up their orders instead of having the items shipped to their address.
The cashback feature will apply to select customers with orders worth $25 and above, to which they can pick up in their nearest Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh, and Kohls. Several unnamed Prime members were informed of the request via email.
According to the eCommerce giant, the initiative is not meant to cut costs and has been around for some time. "We offer customers a variety of ways to get their packages, inclusive of delivery and pickup options. The $10 Amazon Pickup promotion isn't new," the company explained.
The update comes as eCommerce companies and retail giants slash return and home delivery while slack customer demand soars.
Last February, Amazon rival Target announced a new drive-up service that allows Target Circle members to return unopened purchases in select Target stores, set to launch in Spring this year.
Transport companies UPS and FedEX have also hopped on the trend, encouraging customers in rural or hard-to-reach areas to use access points to obtain or return their purchases.
At the start of this year, Amazon also expanded its “Buy with Prime” program that allows merchants to offer customers special services such as free two-day delivery, and the ability to view customer reviews and ratings on their own Amazon listings.
