Standout Features:

  • Expressive and elegant brush script typography
  • Art-directed ingredient and finished dish photography
  • Clear, user-centric recipe layout with an icon system

This recipe book, "Libro Tierra de Sabores" by Nestlé and designed by Grupo Diseño Republica, needed to be both appetizing and elegant. It successfully combines a rustic, warm aesthetic with the sophistication of a premium print production.

An elegant brush script is a recurring visual element, most notably in the main title. With its fluid and high-contrast strokes, this typography injects a sense of passion and human artistry. It improves the catalog’s perceived value, positioning it as a curated, premium artifact rather than a simple recipe collection.

Art-directed photography is central to the design. The cover's "knolling" layout — ingredients neatly arranged on a dark background — communicates a focus on foundational quality. Interior pages are dominated by full-bleed, styled photos of the dishes, using shallow depth of field to evoke a high-end restaurant atmosphere.

This focus on photographic styling is crucial, as research (Sakay et al., 2021) confirms that manipulating factors like background, lighting, and decorative elements is key to enhancing the viewer's impression of deliciousness.

The layout for recipes is highly functional. A clean two-column grid separates ingredients from steps. Titles use a strong condensed sans-serif, and numbered lists guide the process. An icon system for key data like serving size is a modern touch that builds confidence and ensures the book is a practical kitchen tool.

Republica's design for "Libro Tierra de Sabores" demonstrates that balancing stunning, art-directed visuals with highly functional layouts can create a desirable artifact that not only inspires but also empowers its audience, driving both engagement and support for its cause.
