  • Project Brief: Create a promotional video that celebrates Estonian cultural identity by blending traditional folk dance and costumes with contemporary urban settings, rhythmic editing, and modern music.

Videos with amazing background music can make an old tradition feel brand new when the track comes from a completely different world. Estonia: Born from Culture follows Soveldaja, the Tallinn University folk dance ensemble, as it carries Estonian folk dance into the modern city.

The soundtrack sets Future's "Mask Off" against a diatonic Estonian accordion, so a trap beat and a village dance tune share the same bars. That pairing gives the film its own sound and tells you right away that this folk culture is still moving.

Elo Unt's choreography keeps the footwork precise while leaving room for the loose swing of the music. Kevin Kohjus cuts on the beat and moves from wide shots of dancers mid-leap on a rain-slick square to close portraits of single faces.

Costumes carry the color, from maroon knit jackets with pink embroidered bands to red pillbox hats and green skirts covered in roses. Ivy-covered cobblestone alleys and wide modern plazas frame those patterns, so the film shows styles changing while the Estonian spirit stays the same.
