- Project Brief: Create a technology video for SPECS that demonstrates how its technology can help users develop new skills through humorous storytelling, a playful artistic experiment, and a concise, personality-driven performance by Robert Downey Jr.
A technology commercial lands faster when a famous face tests the product on a skill he never learned. SPECS, a line of augmented reality glasses, casts Robert Downey Jr. as its Chief Customer Experience Officer and hands him a pencil for Experiment 107: Masterpiece.
The lab sits inside a grand hall with a coffered ceiling, carved columns, and a warm sepia glow from a giant softbox. Technicians in white coveralls take notes on clipboards beside wooden easels, so the art class plays like a clinical trial.
The story frames Downey as the subject of the brand’s 107th test, with lab staff waiting to see whether the glasses can turn a novice into a portrait artist. A face appears on the paper within seconds, and the joke comes from how seriously the whole room treats one sketch.
Upbeat music and quick cuts carry the 31-second spot straight to a “Voila” reveal. Downey’s deadpan delivery and his SPECS staff badge keep the joke rolling as the brand promises you can master skills you never had.
