There’s no denying the sheer power of the Internet – especially when it comes to business. People are constantly connected to the world wide web through smartphones and other devices, and engage with hundreds – if not, thousands – of advertisements each and every day.
But with so many businesses competing on the same platforms, how can brands ensure they stand out from the crowd and continue to grow?
After all, almost 40 percent of consumers will stop interacting with a brand if their website has:
- Images that do not load.
- An unattractive layout or design.
- Content that is too long.
- An overall long load time for the website. What’s more? 80 percent of consumers are more likely to convert when presented with a personalized consumer experience – even online.
DesignRush sat down with Dan Bowen, the founder and CEO of leading digital agency BOWEN Media. He shared how businesses can expect web design and digital marketing to change over the course of the next year, the best practices that will increase conversion rates, how to build a successful partnership with an agency, and more.
DesignRush: Tell us a bit about Bowen.
Dan Bowen: BOWEN is a creative agency + digital consultancy based in New York. We started as a custom web design company and evolved into an innovative partner for mid-to-large-sized companies.
DR: What web design trends do you think will explode in the next year?
DB: I think professional websites will focus on emotional design and forging authentic human connections through original imagery, high-quality video production, and edgy content in 2019. It’s necessary to stand out today and make a lasting impression that counts.
Brands should also use clearer and more precise font types. Fancy fonts that are hard to read do not add any value to your website.
DR: What digital marketing trends do you think will explode in the next year?
DB: Local Influencer marketing will offer user-generated content and build brand credibility without the high cost that macro influencers and celebrities require.
Plus, I think high-level automation will become very popular throughout 2019 and 2020. This will allow brands to target consumers personally on the platforms that they interact with most when they are the most engaged.
DR: What are your top 3 tips or best practices brands should follow to increase online conversions?
DB: 1. Invest in strong design and messaging. It's so important to stand out and look credible these days.
2. Record and analyze user behavior. You should continuously optimize and use data to increase online conversions.
3. When planning and building a new website, consider the various paths a user can take. Plan a site that has the least amount of resistance, and get people what they are looking for without unnecessary text, images, clicks, pages, etc.
DR: Many businesses forget about the importance of agency support after a product goes live or a campaign is launched. How do leading agencies provide adequate support and ensure success, and how can brands ensure they receive the support they need to succeed?
DB: It’s crucial to plan well beyond the launch date of a campaign or new website. We consider this milestone the true starting point. These types of conversations need to happen early on to ensure there are adequate resources and that expectations are clearly defined.
DR: Tell us about some web design projects your agency has worked on. Why were they effective?
DB: We designed and developed a new website for a global logistics company with multi-lingual and multi-site CMS. This website elevated the company’s brand presence, presented all global offices as part of one strong entity, and made it significantly easier for potential customers to inquire for services.
DR: What advice do you have for brands who are hoping to create a long-lasting partnership with an agency?
DR: Define short and long-term expectations as a team. You need to understand that successful projects and campaigns take a highly collaborative effort. Schedule regular status calls and momentum meetings to ensure goals and deadlines are met.
