Dimov Tax was exceptionally helpful and fair-priced when assisting my family with complex tax questions that involved cross-border considerations. Working with the team at Dimov Tax has been a fantastic experience. I have relied on them for my filings over the last four tax years, and I always feel confident knowing they genuinely look out for my best interests. They are dedicated, reliable, and consistently advocate for their clients!

Tax Preparation Review from Рубен Газарян
This is easily the finest tax firm I have ever worked with. As a long-term client who grew up outside the United States, I find the American tax system incredibly complex and confusing. However, Kirill Solntsev and George Dimov made my highly complicated 2025 tax return feel completely manageable. Kirill’s exceptional professional support, patience, and meticulous attention to detail were incredible throughout the entire process. They offer top-tier individual tax planning and filing services at a great price point. I wish them continued success and look forward to remaining a loyal client for many years to come!

Excellent accounting firm. They know what they are doing and actually want to help their clients. Big enough to have great resources but not too big that you are just a number.

We have been with Wiss for about (11) years now, so I believe we know their firm fairly well.At the start, they immediately saved us a considerable amount of tax liability in Year 1 and moving forward over the years. As we are a global corporation with many subsidiaries, they also made some recommendations as far as restructuring to take advantage of other more technical issues. We primarily use Wiss for our annual general accounting audit, tax preparations and filings, and 401K audit. They also assist from time to time regarding international related issues. As with many companies, changes of personnel do occur from time to time, but they have always made these as seamless as possible. We have also experienced Federal and State audits, which they have also guided us thru from A to Z.In summary, we value Wiss as a partner with our company and have always experienced a very positive, professional and full service relationship.

As the owner of a small business, the accounting firm I choose needs to be responsive, friendly, and thorough. Having been with Wiss for over 5 years now, Paul, Jim and the rest of the staff have been amazing. They respond to my emails, answer my questions and add insight into the financial and accounting aspects of my business. This has allowed me to make better decisions for the growth of my company and the financial security for my family.I have had two other accounting firms in the past and neither were as attentive or engaging as they are at Wiss. The team at Wiss got my business onto an online platform that has made my accounting a breeze. There have been several occasions where I needed clarification and had difficulty with certain aspects of my quickbooks account and they were able to rectify them within 1 business day.As a busy owner running a company, I feel great knowing the accounting aspect and tax planning is in great hands. One less thing I need to be concerned with which allows me to concentrate on growing my business.I would highly recommend them and have personally done so with family, friends and colleagues.

Frequently Asked Questions About Accountants in NYC
When should I consider hiring an accountant in NYC?
Hire an accountant once your finances become too complex, time-consuming, or risky to manage alone. If you’re starting or restructuring a business, dealing with NYC and New York State tax obligations, filing multi-income or multi-state returns, or managing significant deductions, you will need an accountant's help.
According to IRS data, every small business faces audit and penalty risks that rise with revenue and payroll complexity, making professional oversight critical. An accountant is especially valuable when you’re scaling revenue, hiring employees or contractors, raising capital, or preparing for audits.
How much does it cost to hire an NYC accountant?
The price of hiring an accountant in New York City ranges between $150 and $400 per hour, according to multiple online reports. Agencies also charge flat fees, which can range from $500 to $1500, depending on the financial services.
What should I look for when hiring an accounting firm?
Prioritize credentials, industry experience, and technology adoption. NYC accounting firms with licensed CPAs reduce compliance risk and stay up to date with changing tax laws, accounting tools, and technologies. According to a survey, 71% of accounting firms report that advanced tech adoption directly improves client profitability, enabling faster reporting and fewer errors. Look for experience in your industry and services that match your growth stage, including tax, payroll, forecasting, and advisory, so you don’t need to switch firms when your needs expand.
Communication, retention, and transparent pricing are also essential. According to a survey, high-performing firms maintain 75-85% client retention (vs. ~60-70% for smaller or less established firms), signaling service quality and reliability. Clear pricing, whether hourly, flat-fee, or retainer, prevents surprises and improves long-term value. Firms that explain financials clearly and respond quickly help leaders make faster, better decisions.
What certifications should an accountant in NYC have?
The most important credential for an accountant is the Certified Public Accountant (CPA). They can prepare tax returns, perform audits and attestations, handle financial reporting, and represent clients in many compliance situations. Another key tax-focused credential is the Enrolled Agent (EA), an IRS-issued certification that emphasizes tax expertise and allows representation before the IRS.
Accountants typically have the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credentials for strategic financial management and corporate accounting, and the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) credentials for internal audit and compliance work. Firms serving niche needs may also value specialty certifications like Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
What is the difference between an accounting firm and a CPA firm?
An accounting firm provides bookkeeping, payroll, tax preparation, and financial reporting services. It employs accountants with varying credentials, but they are not required to have licensed CPAs on staff. Accounting firms typically cannot perform audits, reviews, or attestations, and their ability to represent clients before the IRS may be limited depending on staff credentials.
A CPA firm employs one or more licensed Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and is authorized by the state (New York State Education Department). Only a CPA firm can legally perform audits, reviews, and attest services, required by lenders, investors, and regulators. According to the AICPA, audits and attest engagements are restricted exclusively to CPAs, making CPA firms essential for higher-risk, compliance-driven, or growth-stage businesses.
